Question about Refrigerators

Ice maker is making crushed ice even though the switch is on cube

I tried to move the blades around on the ice bucket but I'm not doing something right. Has been an ongoing problem. The ice bucket is brand new.

If you remove the bucket you will notice in the rear of cabinet that there is a u shaped metal arm that rotates the bucket auger. The arm rotates one way for cubed and the other for crushed ice. If the motor operates one way then it should go other way as well. Control for this is the actual selection switch above dispensor compartment. It is a circuit board and would need replaced for proper repair," removing cover can be difficult it depends on the type," If you don't mind crushed all the time then you can remove bucket, there is a U shaped arm, remove it and panel in rear of freezer, on the motor that arm was bolted to, reverse the two wires in order to make motor run opposite of previous setting," motor is designed to do this, switch offered selecting either way and now doesn't work." This is a permenant solution to change to cubed same thing would have to be done. The circuit board isn't to expensive and once you figure out how to remove it is a much easier repair than other way.

My maytag refrigerator crushed ice will not switch back to cubes

Try replacing the ice bucket. That has the teeth and gears that crush the ice up. It could be stuck. If not then there's a solenoid in the back of the freezer that switches the ice bucket from cubed to crushed. You'll see the rod in the ice bucket slides into a square hole that moves up and down. That's it there.

Take out the ice bucket and check the metal arm and make sure it moves freely. Ice may have gotten stuck.

Dispenses crushed ice only, not cubed

remove the dispenser bucket where the ice drops into inside the freezer and get a Tupper ware bowl, remove the bucket and dump this ice into the bowl, then rinse with the dispenser bucket with warm tap water to melt any ice on each end of this ice maker, then wipe dry and replace into freezer where you removed it to get cold again and leave empty till the next harvest of ice, this can be normal on some units after so many weeks,as it will not let the blades retract so as just to dispense only cubes, once bucket is cleaned of ice jams the solenoid and blades will again retract for cubes only

We emptied ice bucket to fill cooler. Now all we get is crushed ice and not cubes. I can switch buttons from crushed to cubes but still get crushed. Did we do something wrong when I pulled out ice bucket...

There is a metal rod under the ice bucket. This rod sticks out from the back of the bucket. Where it inserts into the ice shelf, you will see a small square hole. This is what changes it from crushed to cubed. It is an actuator that moves the rod to allow cubes to come out. Stick a screwdriver into the square hole and move the actuator up and down. Then reinsert the ice-bucket and that should fix the problem. Hope this helps.

Fridge Freezer model KA58NP90 Ice maker problem

What is most likely your problem is the crushed ice solenoid. This solenoid, which is located next to the auger motor behind the ice bucket, is failing to actuate when you request cubed ice. Its "home" setting is crushed, and actuates to allow cubes past the crushing mechanism in the bucket. To be certain its the problem, remove the ice bucket, and tape the door light switch in the closed position. actuate the ice dispenser lever, for both cubed and crushed ice. you will see a square hole next to the rotating fork, when you select cubes, it should open. If it does open, there is something wrong with your ice bucket, perhaps the arm is broken, or the door inside bucket is off its snap in type hinge or broken altogether. If it doesnt open, replace the solenoid

Try removing the ice bucket and ensure that there is no obstruction (ice cubes stuck inside of metal blades). If no obstruction, then your problem may be in the electronic dispenser control board (if applicable) that distinguishes between cubed and crushed ice. If it appears that the problem is the board, then contact an appliance service company.

Frigidaire Model GLHS68EGSB2, ice maker will only dispense crush ice even if you press the ice cube dispenser

You need to take out the ice bucket, empty it, let the bucket sit in the sink for a few hours. Ice builds up in the crushing blades and jams them, let all the ice melt out of it and it will be fine

Ice maker only operates on crushed ice mode

There should be a solenoid behind the ice bucket that moves an metal arm on the ice bucket to move the crush teeth away for cubes or keeps the crush teeth in place for crushed cubes. Bad solenoid, bad wire at the solenoid, broken solenoid/mechanism piece, bent arm, no power from dispenser to the solenoid are -some- possible trouble makers.

Also the solenoid that controls the crush/cube function is probably frozen. First, pull out your ice bucket. On the bottom of the bucket is a long metal rod the runs all the way to the back wall of the freezer. That rod runs into a little square hole in the back of the freezer. The hole is about 1 and half inches square. Just put your finger in there and see if the solenoid plunger moves up and down easily. If it doesn't move, then it is frozen. Just hit that area with a hair dryer and it will release. If it moves easily, then make sure that the the rod on the ice bucket is seated in there properly

Crushed ice only

Behind the ice bucket is a metal housing that holds the auger motor and solenoid.  The solenoid is bad.  When you go for cubed ice that solenoid should pull up the metal rod on the ice bucket so full cubes will come out.  First check to make sure the metal rod on the ice bucket isn't somehow caught under the solenoid and not letting if move up and down.  You can take out the ice bucket and press for cubed ice.  You should hear a loud clunk noise.  If not then you know the solenoid is not working.
