Did you varify spark? How long was it sitting? if you have spark, may need to clean out carburetor float bowl. inspect it for sediment that could be clogging jets. clean carb. with todays gas containing 10% ethenol it really eats up the inside of fuel lines so may want to replace the fuel line if your mower is getting up there in age. If you have spark try spraying some WD40 into the spark plug hole , re insert plug and try to start. If it starts for a few seconds then you know its carb. good luck

SOURCE: john deere 425 mower won't start

The ignition switch module is likely to be the problem, they seem to quit for no good reason. The safety relays and fuses are built into the board that comes with the switch and will most likely fix your problem.

Riding mower with 42a707 Briggs engine won't fire. Changed plugs air filter fuel filter oil. carb is clean and getting gas.using new gas.

Ken are you getting any spark at the plugs ?
If not remove air housing to expose fly wheel and spark coil there is a ground wire going to coil, unplug it to see if you get spark now if not you need a new spark coil.

danny, i had a john deere come in that had great fire and good fuel. i worked on it two days. for some reason i changed the new spark plug that was in it for an old one i had. it started and ran great. just because it has spark does not mean that the plug is good. try to change the spark plug. hope this helps you.

Why will Ariens lawn mower starter engine not turn over?

These machines have carb and coil issues. Check for fire. Nice when new, but once a little age creeps in, the engines just aren't that sturdy. Sorry, but as a small equipment mechanic, I don't recommend Lawn Boy. Next time, buy another brand.

check gas tank with light is there dirt in tank? did you change fuel filter? is there spark at the spark plug? try a 2 second spurt of starting fluid in carburetor and crank does it fire?if it does then you most likely need to clean carburetor with carburetor cleaning spray, flush fuel lines with spray and swap fuel filter.

Honda push mower wont run right

I have the GVC160 motor....same problems....just found this info (see link),...and it turned out that Honda used a NGK spark plug that was defective,....I couldn't believe that is all it was...after changing the carb (new),...adjusting valves....etc.. I just went down and bought a new spark plug.....and it runs great!!
----
BEFORE go thru all of the advice and look at most other Honda web info.....go and buy a brand new spark plug and start with that! It appears Honda used a NGK spark plug in the past that fails after some time....giving the syptoms of problems with the carb, sticky valve, etc. Do not try to clean and use the old spark plug!! Check this out....it was the answer I was looking for after hours of work, reading, and talking to Honda dealers - http://forum.doityourself.com/outdoor-power-equipment-small-engines/261743-honda-lawnmower-starting-then-cutting-out.html

Poulan 6.75 Lawn mower will not start

Remove spark plug, clean and dry. Replace plug. Remove air filter. Spray WD-40 into carb opening; one second blast. Turn over engine, (pull handle). Engine should start briefly and run for 3 seconds.  If not, you are not getting spark to spark plug. If engine starts, you have a dirty carb and you can buy a rebuild kit from manufacture.
