Dyson dc14 brushes not turning

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear your DC14's brush bar isn't rotating. This could just mean that the brush control is set to 'Hard floors' rather than 'Carpets'. To check for this, please take a look at our Support guide:

My dyson quits running after vaccuming a short time. I am wondering if the motor is over heating is why it stops running.

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC14. Like most Dyson cleaners, your DC14 is equipped with a safety device which shuts off the cleaner if it starts to overheat. This is often due to a blockage - I'd also recommend washing the filter. The easiest way to check for and remove any blockages is to follow the steps shown in our online guide:

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/help.asp?article=626&product=DC14-ANIMAL

The correct way to wash the filter is shown in the video linked below. The filter should be washed in cold water without any detergent, at least once every 3-6 months. Always ensure it's totally dry before replacing it - this may take up to 12 hours.

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/help.asp?article=1942&product=DC14-ANIMAL

By clearing any obstructions and washing the filter, you should be able to resolve your issue without further assistance. However, if you've followed these steps and are still concerned, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you and recommend the best course of action.

Kind regards,

Jack

My brush doesn't spin.

Hi there,

DC14 models equipped with the brush control feature use a clutch which does not require replacement belts. If your DC14 is a model with brush control, recline the cleaner into the vacuuming position, and check that you have the brush control set to 'Carpets'. If the brushbar isn't rotating, please get in touch with us directly using the details provided below.

If your DC14 is a model without the brush control feature, you can find out how to replace the belt in our online guide:

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/help.asp?article=631&product=DC14-SY-STD

For further assistance, please call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you to establish the cause of the issue, and will be able to recommend the best course of action.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC14. If the noise has changed, the relief valve is activating, and debris is coming from the cleaner head, sounds as if have a blockage. The filter may also need a wash.

I feel like I'm pushing a semi when I vacuum carpet with my DC14. How can I remedy this?

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having a problem with your DC14. You may find that due to the machine's powerful suction, it does feel a little heavy to push on certain types of carpeting. It might help to check that you have your brush control adjusted correctly - in case you don't have your user guide to hand, here's an online version. Please see page 6:

You might also find it helps to run through these simple troubleshooting steps to check everything is correct with the cleaner:
