Question about Dell Alienware X51 AX51-5722BK Desktop PC Windows 7 Home Premium

1 Answer

So my computer has been freezing up every now and then. Its normally when I take an action such as right click. And its only happening after a few hours of it being on. It started happening as soon as I switched Internets. (Not sure if its linked to that or not. And also my PCI Express is failing. Error code: WPE01-ETZ. Again I'm not sure if any of these two things have anything to do with it.

Check it in safe mode, in safe mode your computer should run proper. if it is then reinstall the OS otherwise some hardware issue is there, check with the single RAM.

I know this is old, but I wanted to list what I did to solve this problem, should someone else have the same issue. I too have a Dell POS Alienware computer. After 1 year of constant freezing, I found the culprit. So - if you notice, the INSIDE SIDE OF THE CASE (bottom left corner if you are looking at the SIDE OF THE CASE THAT COMES OFF) that comes off has this little metal connection that rests ON THE INSIDE of the CASE and appears to touch the POWER SUPPLY or something. After removing THE LITTLE PLASTIC METAL CONNECTION and cutting the wires so it is no longer on the INSIDE/BOTTOM of the INSIDE case and touching the POWER SUPPLY connector - I NO LONGER HAVE ANY ISSUES. NOT SURE WHY this is there, maybe it's there so you have to have the case cover on before you power the PC, but after removing that I NO LONGER HAVE ANY PROBLEMS. 1 week of running with no issues and this is the only thing I did. So - in a nutshell, this solved it for me...no more issues!

SOURCE: when i click on send to computer freezes

Either you are running low on pc resources such as ram (memory), hard drive OR you have a virus.

1. You could try doing a "system restore" and go back in time to when it worked also.

2. Try to do a complete virus scan. AVG free edition of coarse is free.

3. Buy some more pc memory.

Boot the computer into "Safe Mode".

To boot PC into Safe Mode follow these steps:

1. Turn the computer on or Restart the computer
2. Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Boot Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
3. Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected, not Repair Your Computer
4. Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
5. When you are finished with troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would

If the computer boots into Safe Mode you can try disabling Startup Programs, one of these might be causing your computer to freeze. To do this follow these steps:

1 Press Start. Type msconfig into the search bar and press Enter. For XP, click on Run and type msconfig there.

Ok heres my problem when my computer comes on it says it wasn't shut down correctly and when i have it to start normally nothings happens it just freezes and when i have it start from last known working...

Hi,

Most likely the driver that ha gone bad is the video driver. Let's troubleshoot the problem first by finding out if this happens on Safe Mode. Perform the following steps. Make sure the computer is off.

1. Turn on computer
2. Start tapping F8 key right away (once per second)
3. You should be looking at your screen with the Windows Advanced Boot Option menu similar to the picture shown below.

4. Use your keyboard's UP arrow key to highlight Safe Mode with Networking.
5. Press Enter key twice.
6. Log on to your account if prompted.
7. Click on Yes button to continue loading the Safe Mode.
8. Close any window that may come up on your screen.

In some cases, you may notice that everything seems to be in bigger size. This is normal on Safe Mode because it is using the native drivers for your computer.

If the computer freezes in Safe Mode, chances are, you might have a hardware problem. It may be the hard drive or video card. If the video card is integrated or built in to the motherboard, then it might be the motherboard.

If the computer does not freeze in Safe Mode, let us continue and hopefully resolve this issue. Perform the next steps.

1. Click on Start.
2. Right Click on Computer.
3. Click on Manage.

mongkey_56.jpg
You should find yourself looking at the Computer Managment window.

4. Click Device Manager to highlight.
5. Click the plus sign of the Display adapters, similar to the picture below.

mongkey_0.png

6. Whatever listed under it, delete it. Press the Delete button on your keyboard, then,
follow the instructions.
7. Restart Computer to Normal Mode.

While your computer is restarting to Normal Mode, Windows should be installing its Native Driver for your computer's video card/adapter. Eventually, you will need to re-install the video driver for your computer. Should you find yourself asking how to re-install the video driver of your computer, kindly response with your computer's brand/model for further assistance.

I hope this works for you. Good Luck!

My computer runs window 7 and it keeps shutting down for no reason and also it keeps freezes for sometime.

Reboot the computer in "Safe" mode and run it for a while and see if the same problems occur. If it doesn't, then I would suspect it is a software and not a hardware problem.

If you think it is a software problem, reboot the computer into safe mode again. Now click the start button and in the search box type MSCONFIG

When the window pops up click the "Selective Startup" button and then on the startup tab. Deselect all the checked boxes, click apply and ok, reboot the computer normally.

Now only the essential services will load and no programs will automatically load. If the computer continues to run normally, then you can go back into MSCONFIG go to the strat tab and start checking a few boxes to start again, like antivirus and malware first. Reboot the computer and see if it freezes with those programs running....if it does then you know one of those is the culprit, if not click a few more on and reboot until you find the trouble software.

Desktop freezes up so often or gets logout by itself & reboot?!

This could be a couple of things, overheating may cause it to randomly shut down, but if it freezes up on you then it could be a motherboard issue or memory. When you boot up your computer, does it beep at you at all? More than 1 beep signifies a problem. Right click on the my computer icon and click properties, see how much memory it says you have, does that number look accurate? A bad memory module could cause similar problems. A bad motherboard would, in my experience, more often freeze when you first boot up.
