bought AGP Matrox 16mb video card, now the monitor responds, but the
screen is just black. before it wasn't doing anything at all. put cd it came with to install driver and cd rom seems to be running, but the still monitor stays black.

if you have beep sound on the board try to remove all memory then power on the CPU if u no beep sound try to resets the Bios..remove the AC power on the ATX then remove the Battery on the Mother Board (3.0v) then find the jumper settings near at the Battery CMOS then short the jumper then return back the battery and the jumper to the original position and try it now to boot the board...Thanks ^_^

Motherboard Power Problem

Hello Alienware,

Could be a few things.... such as the micro-fuses that have gone on the MB....

But what I dont understand is this:...."Then I disconnect the 4-pin cable that goes from the Power Supply to the motherboard near the CPU and the pc turns on fine"

How????
You have just disconnected the cable from the PSU to the motherboard....it CANT turn on! LOL.

Do you mean that the lights turn on?
Or you hear the HD spin up (if you left it connected to the MB that is)?

Please advise so I can help you more.

No video on monitor ?

Try testing the hardware connections. Often it's as simple as a backwards IDE cable for the hard drives/cdroms, but if that isn't the case, start from nothing. Remove one of the two RAM sticks and all devices, (drives, CD-roms, anything that isn't needed to boot)
Let me know what this turns up.
