Question about Edirol FA-101 (FA101) Audio Input

Open Question

I have an external soundcard (Edirol FA-101) that only attaches with a fire wire cable which my new laptop doesn't have an input for. I bought an adaptor; a Firewire 1394 6 Pin Female to USB Male Adaptor (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150938131698?sPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649) but during driver instal when i plugged it in, there was a power surge warning wanting to reset the usb port (i have both USB2 and USB3 - same result), and have come to understand that they have diff min/max amps, right? (so why are they allowed to sell the adaptor!?) My laptop also doesn't have an express card slot, which i understand is sometimes another option. Does anyone have a solution to my problem? like some external power supply, or a 'Y' adaptor possibly? Thanks for help Appreciated Mike

SOURCE: edirol fa-66

1.i gained info about the mains supply data (9 volts 2 a, minus pole in the center pole of the plug) which is a quite exotic supply in comparison to standard devices with 12 volts an plus pole in the center pole ...
the fa 66 didn't work , when connected by 4 to 4 or 4 to 6 firewire cable .
my laptop only has a small 4 pole socket.
therefore i suppose that through this 4-pole socket and cable there was no current lead through.

after additionally connecting the fa-66 with mains supply AND 4 to 6 (fa 66 side) cable ... it finally worked.
the manufacturer should print all relevant data directly to the fa 66 device near by the socket und also print "FA-66" onto the supply ... because i own lots of alike-looking supplys and it's a drag to find out which ist good for what...

The first thing you should do is to uninstall the EDIROL UA-101 USB2 Driver Ver.1.0.3 for Windows XP and reinstall the system. If the problem persist try to use other usb cable, if the problem still the same please let me know inorder to make another procedure to follow to identify the problem.

Dear Sir, My name is JOY and basically I am an arranger and programmer. At present , I am using EDIROL FA-66 soundcard for my programming. I think this sound card is superb and i have no problem...

I need to know first of all what your setup is for output (you may not hear the low frequencies if you aren't running a sub, or if the sub woofer isn't configured correctly. Also check all of your output settings, including those settings for file conversions within each software used for these tracks. Another thing to keep in mind that you may also need to reinstall or update your soundcard drivers.

*Double check all your inputs/outputs to see that they are secure.
*Look in the control panel(s) and make sure that the equalizer settings are correct as well. It's common to experience settings to be muted in windows. You may have also blown your sub channel as well, depending on any amps/equipment you use (if you even do).

When I run my Akai MPC 1000 into my Edirol FA-66 get a loud hum through my monitors that does not pick up in the recording. I've tried switching around which power points that my MacBook, monitors and MPC...

its probably a ground loop (i think thats what it's called)
sometimes if a number of sound devices like monitors/computer/soundcard are connected
with the same ground, this problem occurs.

so maybe try use a ground-less electricity wire on the mpc, or the laptop. or both.
good luck.

How do i get my FA-66 to work via firewire?? please help!!!!!!!

u're probably trying to connect it with a 4 to 6 pins firewire cable to your laptop right?
if so, the laptop firewire connection is usually the small type (4 pins). this kind
of connection does not give Power to the firewire device.
u can buy a pcmcia card with 6pin firewire connections and usa a 6 to 6 firewire cable
and that will work. i hope. :)

Problem with FA-66

Judging from the wiring diagram on the cover, the headphones are connected to the same output lines as 1 & 2. When you increase or lower the monitors. So do the headsets. The only way to get around it is to find a pair of headsets with at volume control into the wiring of the headsets or plug the monitors into outputs 3 & 4.

Edirol Fa66 Problem

I bought the FA-66 because I use Cakewalk Sonar and they sell this interface on the Cakewalk site with thier name on it. I've had nothing but problems with this unit as described above. I've tried it on two different computer and it does not work on either. I also use an RME Fireface 800 on both these machines, same set up and it works flawlessly. Drop the Edirol/Roland FA-66 and try something else like an RME card or something. That would be my suggestion. It's a shame Cakewalk promots this piece of garbage. I've tried Edirol/Roland technical support and the guy just kept saying the sound card works fine, like it was just my problem.
