Mitch,

The seal (aka: Gasket) is what keeps the cold air in your unit. 99% of gaskets have a magnet inside to help hold the door closed. Most gaskets are made out of a PVC material and can withstand the cold temperatures of residential and even commercial freezers and fridges. The don't often get too cold as they could get brittle too quick and crack which would lead to air and condensation build up in your unit. If you are in need of a replacement gasket. Visit us at www.gasketguy.com or give me a call and I can help locate the right gasket for you.

I had same issue this past week. Refrigerator up to 45 freezer up to 15. Ice would melt and then everything would get cold again. Ice formed on everything. Next thing you know it was warming up again. I knew the rubber seal on door flap that opens to let ice out warped during summer months because I keep it 78 in summer. Had that replaced today. Temperatures have gone back to normal and stayed ALL DAY (knock on wood). Check door flap seal sticking your hand up making sure you don't push in the water tab. You should be able to feel if it is warped/wavy like an old LP or not. Good Luck.

Frost buildup inside freezer door at ice dispenser

you are still not getting a seal on that flap. It sounds as if it may be warped. THe reason the frost and ice is building up is due to the flap not sealing there isn't any other reson for your problem. Good luck on your repairs

Side by side ge profile freezer is not cold and metal strip is warm between doors

Clean the seal with soapy water and a dish brush (especialy in the folds) Dry the seal and use a dollar for the test to see if the seal is working everywhere. The seal may need to be aligned by pressing the 3 directions ( you will feel it pop in place. If it still leaks use silicone gerase from the plumbing dpt. at the hardware store.

My freezer also just jumped to 17° and won't go down to 0.

We need to check the evaporator fan and the condenser fan. The heat in the door frame is normal when the refrigerator runs normally. But when a control board or fan fails the heat may increase because they are heat strips behind the door or condenser lines placed there to prevent moisture around door seals. We also will need to unplug and have a look at the mother board on back behind a panel. Many times the board will show burn marks on the back or front. When you are ready let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze

You need to replaced the door cam assembly on the bottom of the refrigerator side. It is probably cracked and hanging up.
