Hi Beverley

You will need the C86 Service Manual to help you remove the printer top cover and Automatic Sheet Feeder (ASF). The C63/64/65/66/83/84/85/86 service manual can be downloaded from here:

http://www.eserviceinfo.com/downloadsm/12748/Epson_C64%20and%20C84.html

You don't need to buy replacement waste pads - just wash out the old ones and dry them (use a bucket and latex gloves if you want to avoid destroying your sink and nicely manicured hands). Note their order and orientation as you remove them otherwise refitting can be a bit confusing.

You will also need to reset the waste ink protection counter by using the SSC utility - download from:

http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml

Install it, and double click the ssc printer icon in the bottom right corner (System Tray). Choose Configuration and set your printer type, then close the ssc window. Now right click the ssc icon in the sytem tray and choose Protection Counter. Check the current count value - if it is greater than the limit shown it will confirm
this is your problem. Then choose reset to set it to zero. Turn the printer off then back on again. This will stop the lights flashing and restore normal operation.

Please post a new comment if youe require further assistance.

Hi, My Epson Photo 700x tells me that the ink pads

If your product is the EPSON STYLUS PHOTO PX700W, yes that is the correct part.
But before you go to that, try the software tools found here: http://technicalsupportnotebook.blogspot.com/2011/11/reset-epson-printer-ink-counter-and-ink.html

Beverly,

Thank you for asking me directly to help you with your problem. However, either the question you are asking is not within my area of expertise (I am an automotive repair technician), or the question is incomplete and does not contain enough information for me to help you.

yes sure you can just download the inkpad reset utility at this website www.epson.com/ipr this driver will help you reset the counters of your printer just make sure you replace the ink pad itself. you can purchase the ink pads at best buy or at any nearby computer shop or you can use your imagination to replace that darn sponge

My canon pixma ip 1600 has a full ink absorber---is there any way to fix this or do i need to buy a new printer-thanks

Try to remove the absorber (wear rubber gloves--very messy) and wash it in hot water and detergent. You can buy the replacement part if you don't want to try to wash it.

Changing waste pads

try this rescue kit that includes everything you need to do the job, including how to clean the old pads instead of buying new ones.

Epson printer -parts at their end of life!

It is a labour intensive job to strip these machines and replace the pads and get them back in one piece and printing, it took me 2.5 hours to do my first one, now it still takes 3/4 of hour knowing the beast, but all epsons are the same not made for fixing just for throwing out. Besides the repair shop needing to replace 7 cheap pads you have to reset the counters that control the error, only epson dealers have access to that Eagle software program that you need to use to do it.

So in short, no they are not ripping you off and yes better off throwing it and no you cant just change the pads.

Believe it or not, you have done well to get 3 years from a inkjet, you must use gen inks.

Service life has ended on my epson stylus r320 photo printer

Thanks for your selflessness Steve H. describing the RESET procedure for the Epson R300 by simutaneouly depressing the POWER, STOP and MAINTENANCE switches.

I checked with Epson, via telephone, and they recommended going to an authorized dealer for ink pad replacement (approximately $100) or buy a new printer ( $150 - $250).

After completing your suggested RESET procedure successfully - I went a step further and mopped up the excess ink that was evident on the 'black ink pad' which was saturated with black ink. I used Kleenex which seemed to mop up the excess BLACK ink nicely, and continued this mopping procedure until there was no evidence of black ink on the Kleenex. There was very little evidence of spilled ink on the color pads.

Time alone will tell. So thanks again Steve - you saved me $100 to $200.

Oh yeah! I LOVE this printer.

Service required error

Make those arragemnets, it needs its waste ink pads replaced and ink clean counter reset via Epson Service software (Eagle)

If you just rest counter you are likely to have ink running loose into printer, there are 8 seperate ink pads in these none of them easy to replace, machine need to be fully stripped to do so.

These macnes count how many cleans they do and stop when figure that epson estimate ink pads are full is reached. It is more ecomical to replace inkjets than to fix, buy a new one with gen inks warranty for same price as repair bill.
