Make sure the circuit breaker is off. Then you have to repair the outlet or replace it with new one. That is the easiest thing unless you toasted the outlet wiring that would require an electrician to fix. Lowe's or Home Depot have free classes on repair that.

Why my disposal won't turn off

Sounds like the disposal is plugged into the wrong outlet. Try moving to the other socket on the wall plate.

Garbage disposal is clogged

Does the other side of the sink drain? Are you sure it's the disposal thats plugged? If the disposal is plugged you can turn it on and plunge it a few times and see if that makes a difference.

When I insert the cover control stopper and turn, I can feel that the magnetic pull but the unit fails to start. Please help.

Make sure that the disposal is plugged all the way in the receptacle. Make sure there is not a circuit breaker tripped in your Breaker Box. There is usually an overload button on the disposal. Try to find it and press it. If the disposal has something in it that keeps it from turning the overload will pop out. If, when you turn it on again, it sounds like it wants to start but doesn't and the overload pops out again, then UNPLUG the disposer and try to get whatever is in it out of it. Then plug it back in and try it again. Best of Luck

The motor on my Badger 5 disposal was humming but not rotating. I cleaned out all the debris, reset it and now there's nothing - no hum, nothing. Is my badger dead?

The badger 5 has a dislodge device on the bottom right in the very center. An allen wrench will fit if you have lost the tool that came with it.

FIrts you will need to dislodge anything preventing it from turning. (Insert the right size allen wrench and turn both directions) The remove whatever comes loose after dislodging.

Then opush the red reset button on the bottom. Check the breaker that powers up the disposal, as you may have tripped it.

If the breaker is on, the unit is turning freely, and the reset button is pushed, then the next step is to check for power using a volt meter, to make sure the disposal is indeed getting power. If all the above has been done, the unit IS getting power then yes, the disposal needs to be replaced.

Garbage disposal wont work

I'm going to ask a dumb question first. You didn't by any chance leave the plug in the disposer did you? I didn't think so but I had to ask.

Next I would check the "red" reset button on the side ot bottom of the disposer, reset it by pushing hard it should "click".

If this doesn't work look under the disposer and see if the is a allen wrench opening in the middle of the disposer, if there is get the proper size wrench (sometimes they are included with the disposer) insert it an turn the disposer counter clock wise, if this turns freely, the next step wold be to call the man.

Switch will not turn on disposal

under the sink you will probably find an electrical outlet with the disposal cord plugged in. If so, plug another item into the outlet like a blow dryer to be sure you have power to the outlet. If you have no power the problem is a tripped breaker or a blown fuse. First check all of the plugs in the kitchen area including under the sink to determine if you have a ground fault circuit interrupter outlet. If you do, it may be tripped. If it is tripped simply reset it.

If you know you have power to the disposal then check to be sure no spoon or other hard object isn't in the disposal preventing it from operating. Use a flash light to check this. If there is no obstruction look on the case of the disposal for a reset button. good luck.

How to knock out garbage disposal plug

Turn off the power source to the garbage disposal. Take the drain hose from the dishwasher off the connector going to the disposal (if connected). Insert a flat blade screwdriver in the drain hose fitting and tap a few times with a hammer. The plastic plug will pop off inside the garbage disposal. Reach inside from the top of the disposal to retrieve the plastic plug. Sometimes you have to use a little force to tap the plug out. Hope this helps you.
