Question about Philips Magnavox 42MF521D/37 Television
Did you check your cabling on the video input to the TV? I would try replacing the cables first. If that doesnt work I would try using a different source for the video than what you are using now. Do you have a seperate dvd or bluray player or even another cable box that has the same outputs as the source you currently cannot see? If so try using another one and if it still doesn't work then the culprit most likely lies within the TV.

SOURCE: No picture, sound ok
I have a similar issue. Sometimes the entire screen goes black and sometimes only one-half - either the top or bottom half goes black. The only solution we have found is to gently tap the TV (usually the front side) and the picture will come back for awhile. It almost seems heat related as it only goes out after the first 10 minutes of use. There must be a fix to this.

SOURCE: 42" magnavox plasma tv
I partly agree with imaliszewski the problem is Y buffers (upper & lower). There is 3 parts to the Y board (Y-main, Y-upper, and Y-lower). There was an issue with defective Y-buffers in a memo sent out by the Plasma manufacture. The problem could be that you just got a set of these defective buffers in your panel. Or as Imaliszewski stated a current problem. but if you replace the Y-buffers repace them as a set. If your TV goes out again after changing the buffers. The panel is causing the problem by drawing too much current. That was a Defect I found out why working in a Philips/Magnavox warranty repair facility.
