Check at joint between engine and gen, its usually the engine oil seal need replacing u will need to split engine from gen, and replace the oil seal

Coolant leaking from R1 bottom of engine


FYI This has just happened to me.
Bike has been stood for a few weeks and i started it. Noticed the temp was unusually high (105-110) so switched off, checked coolant and it was dry.
I topped up and noticed the coolant leaking from what appears to be a hole in the engine sump casing.
Im a fairly fast worker and i managed to remove the entire exhaust system down to the header pipes and drop the oil and remove the sump casing in around an hour.
It might take longer if you don't do much mechanical stuff. (I'm just a hobbyist btw not a mechanic).
It turns out that the hole in the sump casing is actually linked to a coolant overflow pipe internally. So don't worry coolant is NOT mixing with your oil (and therefore oil is NOT mixing with your coolant!)
So obviously there is something more to this than meets the eye.It turns out that on all Pre2006 R1's the Water Pump is internal and if it leaks, You guessed it, It used this overflow pipe to stop the coolant mixing with your oil.
This is where my mechanical knowledge ends and i will be taking my bike to a real mechanic to swap out the water pump for me.
The good thing is, if you already remove your exhaust system and drop all your oil etc this will save around 1-2hours of labour at the garage!When they've fixed, get them to replace the oil and filter and leave them your exhaust if you like to fit and they can run it up and test it before returning to you working:)

This is quite tricky, the oil leak can be only due to a failure of the OIl seal or that the bearings after being worn out can damage the oil sealing.
So it is best that the unit be taken out in the engine side to be probed.
Now since the leak is more when the engine runs it is better to take down the unit for an overhaul , confirm and then replace the seal / bearings.

Well, I don't know if it's normal but I've seen this on several occasions. Technically, the cases should be sealed with a sealant and not depend on the engine case bolts to prevent oil leakage. But, over the years of operation, the sealant has been compromised by heat and vibration so it isn't unusual that the a bit of oil leaks out of the engine cases when the bolts are removed. It will probably reseal when you put the engine back in the frame and re-torque the bolts but there's no guarantee.

Smal puddle under car. the transmission pan is wet (not soaked) and I cannot find a leakage point


First thing you need to do is clean everything off so there is no residue anywhere. Then run the vehicle and watch for seepage....everywhere.... First, make sure what you are seeing is actually trans oil (reddish and much thinner than engine oil). Make sure you check the bellhousing also. If the leak is coming from the front seal it will blow back on the pan when you are driving. Check cooling lines and their connections at the trans.
If you have checked everything over carefully and still can't locate the leak, you could try using a quality sealer such as lucas. Only time it won't work is if a line or fitting is leaking or if the leak is just too large. That product is one of the few I've seen that won't damage the friction material inside the unit. Don't permit the trans to run low and don't expect overnight results from a sealer. It takes a little time to restore a dried out or brittle seal.

Oil pressure gauge goes up to 80 pounds


80 lbs is good. It's more like around 50, it's probably the oil sending unit. Take a look at it aand make sure it in't leaking. If there is any oil covering it and none coming from above it is leaking. I don't know engine size, but they are usually located around the oil filter.

It is possible that it could be leaking oil from the oil filter adapter (Sometimes called housing) where it mounts to the engine block. Leaks here are pretty rare. More likely, your oil pressure sending unit is leaking oil. It screws into the back side of the oil filter adapter and can sometimes make it look like the adapter is leaking.

I have been using a KB3030B electric pressure washer to clean patio and have notice oil leaking from bottom of casing. Don,t know where its coming from nor what to do


The pump has a section with pistons that must have oil. The oil/piston housing is between the motor and the water portion of the pump. Some seals, somewhere are leaking. If you run it without oil it will destroy itself. You must get it fixed and I would do so before using it again.
