Lift the printer unit from under the scanner, there should be a support to hold it up while changing the cartridge. The cartridges will align them selves automatically once you open the top, so you can access them easily. The manual for you printer can be found here:
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/924/en/index.htm

Click on this link or copy and paste the complete link into your browser.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Having trouble removing ink cartridge on hp e709n printer

Hello Sandi,

According to the product information you provided in your post, the following information should be able to provide you with the information needed to help you remove and replace the ink cartridges for your printer.

Ink Cartridge Removal Steps:

Keep your printer plugged in and on during this process.

1. Open the cartridge access door. The carriage moves to the center of the product. Wait until the carriage stops moving before proceeding.

2. Each ink cartridge will have plastic tabs located directly in front of them. Press in the tab on the front of one of the cartridges, and then pull it out and up to remove it from its slot. Once you have pressed the tab, you then pull up and out on the cartridge and it should come out easily.

Illustration of process:
c01495178.gif

3. Repeat this step to remove all cartridges from their slots. Remember that each ink cartridge will have to be removed individually if your printer has more than one cartridge.

Replacing the cartridge with the new one:

1. Remove the ink cartridge from the packaging and then remove the protective covering.

2. Hold the ink cartridge in the same position as you removed the old ones. Push in and then down on the new ink cartridge which should lock them into position with the tabs automatically and you will you will usually hear a clicking noise when this is done.

3. Close the cartridge access door. The printer will automatically reposition the cartridge print head assembly for you.

This should complete the process and you should now be able to print. Some printer will ask or recommend that you print a test page so that it can calibrate the desired ink usage, position, darkness, etc. If this appears on your screen just follow the directions as prompted to complete the test page.

I hope this provides you with a bit more clarity for removing and reinstalling your printer ink cartridges. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to ask. Have a good day.

Hi,

According to your problem first make sure that you have installed the cartridges properly. Go the the printer properties in control panel and follow the steps open the printinging preferences tab> maintainance tab > Ink cartridge replacement> then the window will show the process of the replacement of ink cartridge. Follow those steps of replacement. Then let the cartridge be processed, it will take a few time. And then your cartridge replacement will be finished. Then align the cartridges from the alignment option in printing preferences as well. If it doesn't solve your problem then the cartridges are faulty, replace a new set of cartridge is recomended.

How to remove the ink cartridges?

r_1.gif Make sure that the printer is on. The fontp.gif power light should be on, but not flashing. r_2.gif Open the printer cover. r_3.gif Press the fontb1.gif maintenance button. The print head moves to the black or color ink cartridge replacement position, the fontp.gif power light begins to flash, and the fontb1.gif error light begins to flash or remains on. When both cartridges are out of ink, the print head moves to the black ink cartridge replacement position first. After replacing the black cartridge, press the fontb1.gif maintenance button again to switch to the color cartridge replacement position. 98a04.gif r_4.gif Lift up the ink cartridge clamp as far as it will go. The cartridge rises partly out of the cartridge holder. Lift the cartridge out of the printer and dispose of it properly. Do not take the used cartridge apart or try to refill it. 98a05.gif r_5.gif Remove the new ink cartridge from its protective bag. Next, remove only the yellow tape seal from the cartridge. Do not touch the green IC chip on the side of the cartridge. 98a06.gif r_6.gif Place the ink cartridge into the ink cartridge holder, and then close the ink cartridge clamps. Do not apply excessive force to the cartridge. 98a07.gif r_7.gif Close the printer cover. r_8.gif Press the fontb1.gif maintenance button. The printer moves the print head and begins charging the ink delivery system. This process takes about thirty seconds to complete. Even with brand new ink, my canon iP4500 won't work

A few basic causes.

1. The cartridges you bought iwere not proper HP ones and many "clone" cartridges are known to have problems with the ink level chips

Take them back and get them replaced with a different brand

2. They are original cartridges but may still be faulty (rare but possible)

Take them back and get them replaced

3. Your print head is clogged or faulty

Run your printerthrough the head cleaning process a few times and see if it clears up.

4 your cartridges are out of alignment

run the cartridge alignment process

New Magenta Ink is not recognized after installed

Hi, it sounds that the issue can be caused by a defective ink cartridge that installed or a printhead that can recognize magenta ink cartridge. To identify which causes this issue please try the following:

1. Reseat ink cartridge
2. Replace ink cartridge with a specified ink cartridge for your printer.
3. If above steps wont resolved that issue, please call your printer manufacture and ask for service referral or process warranty options.
