How large did you make the partition? Windows 7 requires something like 8 GB to install. Your partition should be at least 10 GB, I assume you made it much larger than that since you will most likely want to be using it to save other data etc. If you still have your other partition intact with an OS try booting into there and remaking the partition the way you did before.

SOURCE: Sony Vaio PCV-RS720G not recognizing new Seagate

This should be a quick fix. How old is the machine you are trying to update? Do you know if the jumpers on the drive are in order? Is it a SATA or ATA drive? Did a CD or Disk come with your drive? Check jumpers on your old drive and make sure the jumpers on the new drive are similar ( master, slave, cs ). Usually leaving on Master is best. Is anything else on this line, like a CD or DVD? I think you'll get it from here.

The first part of the message is saying that you can't have a start up hard drive that is already partitioned. Did you try launching Boot Camp Assistant? If you look in your "Applications" folder and open the "Utilities" folder, it's there. I believe Boot Camp Assistant will create the partition you need.

Hard drive not showing dirve letter

With a Windows system, take care that drive has been properly partitioned and properly formatted. In Windows, drive letters can be assigned.

Go to the hard drive management utility in the administrator section of Windows to manage the drive.

I cannot give advice for other OS's than Windows.

I have installed Ubantu in my aspire 5050. Now I want to install win XP so that I can open MS Office from Linux

do you want to make a dual-boot system? you must have installed windows OS first and leave a non-partitioned drive in your hard Disk. Then you can install Ubuntu next, instaling it to the non-partitioned drive. When the PC boots, you will be prompted to what OS to boot.

Anyway, you can Install Windows XP in any free Drive. But it is dangerous since Windows Installer might destroy your Ubuntu installation files.

How many actual hard drives are in your computer? Open the thing up and take a look. You could only have 1 hard drive that is partitioned to look like 2. Just google image hard drives then look in you computer for how many you have. If they are different drives then nothing will happen to info on C, but if its 1 drive partitioned I would do further research.

I have an 80 GB hard drive to replace the one that died in my DPS16. Can you give ne intructions on how to format/partition and load the OS back on? Thanks.

Simply remove the old drive and install the new one. The OS for the Akai DPS16 is kept on the motherboard. Once installed, format the disk and it will automatically partition. My new 80GB drive partitioned into 7 @11GB each. Leave the jumper at CS (cable select).

Help retrieving files from simpletech 320gb hard drive!

I have to admit I haven't used a Mac since high-school, but I can tell you that my first thought on this problem was "file system".

Most external HD's are formatted to be used on a Windows PC, and many are even formatted as NTFS. If this is the case, last I heard anyways, Mac OS doesn't support NTFS.

My suggestion is to use either machine to format the external HD (**you will lose all data on it**) as a neutral file system. By that I mean one which will work on both operating systems.

I could be wrong about this, and Mac OS may support NTFS, but if that's the case somone will be kind enough to correct me.
