How to empty fuel from generator tank

To empty gasoline tanks that have no drain I get a length of plastic hose and syphon it out into a gas can. To syphon I stick one end of the hose into the bottom of the tank and suck the gas with my mouth just so the gas is only two thirds up the hose and make sure you put the part you sucked on goes lower than your full tank. Make sure you do Not get gas in your mouth. That works almost all the time for me.

Carburator leaks gas when cycle is started or running from what looks like vent hose?

Sounds to me like your float valve is obstructed by some debris. This is causing it to stay open and leak fuel. Better it leaks to your vent hose than it leaks in your engine and contaminates your oil.

You need a proper carb cleaning. Not some run in the gas tank sh*t. If the tank wasn't full when parked, chances are there is rust in the fuel system to get this out you need to disassemble the carburetor and thoroughly clean it.

Try not to ride the bike til you do this. It's a fire hazard.

The car seems to have an obstruction in the gas line, won't take gasoline easily from the punp. Turns pump off continuosly.

Dan the reason it takes it from a gas can is there is no pressure building up in the line as you would have from a gas tank. As you fill the tanks the air inside of the tank has to go out as the tank fills up. I would suggest checking the fill hose thats connected to the gas tanks and the spout inlet where you put the hose to fill the tanks and check for kinks in the hose. Second there should be a vent hose from the tanks that connects to the spout also check it for kinks or blockage this would prevent air from escaping from the tank causing the gas pump to cut off due to the rapid filling of the tank without the air being able to escape. Hope this helps

Gas Tank starts to overflow on empty? I tried all different nozzle positions. But the gasoline still backs up?

The rubber hose that runs from the gas cap down to the tank has a smaller hose inside it. The gas goes down inside the smaller hose and the air comes up around the small hose and vents at the gas cap. It sounds like one or both hoses have become crimped somewhere. I wonder if maybe you have hit something like a parking lot curb or had a really hard thump near the gas cap. Crawl under your car and look for the gas tank filler hose. I think you will find the hose bent or collapsed between the cap and the tank. Replacing the filler hose is not difficult but can be frustrating. You may have to lower the tank to get enough clearance to remove the old hose and install the new one. The other suggestion is to see if your gas gauge is working properly. Is it possible that the tank is full and the gauge shows empty? Let me know what you find out.

I want to replace my fuel pump in my 2002 ford ranger truck. Do I have to remove the gas tank? I was scanning the internet two days ago and found a step by step instruction for removing the fuel pump and I...

first of all, if the pump is not working there is no used to replace the hose. the amount of ethanol in the gas is mostly regulated by the government so if there is a problem then people will know about it.
to replace the pump you must remove the tank. you can do it by yourself if you have jack stand and a good floor jack.
put the rear axle of your vehicle on the jack stands equally then put the floor jack under the tank with a piece of wood to support it, then lose all connections such as straps, wires and hoses.
lower the tank then pull it out from under and you can work on removing the pump. hope you did not have much fuel in the tank, good luck

Remove 2009 fxstb softail gas tank

I haven't worked on an '09 model but all the Softails I ever worked on had two tanks. To remove them, first remove the dash and any thing covering the "tank gap". There are three bolts on each tank half, two in the front of the tank and one at the rear. There is also two hoses that connect the two tanks to each other. One in front that is the fuel crossover. Make sure you drain as much fuel out of the tanks as possible before removing this line. Still there will be some gasoline spill out so don't be smoking while doing this job. The other hose is a vent hose at the top of the tanks under the dash. It just vents the left tank to the right one since the left tank gas cap does not have a vent built into it. If it did, gasoline would spill out when the tanks were full and you put the bike on the side stand. You may not have to remove both tanks to install your bars. I don't know where the handle bar wiring harness connects under the tanks.

When I go to fill up the gas tank the gas keeps cutting off at the pump handle and I have to slow the gas pump to a trickle in order to fill the tank.

The problem is that your gas tank "pushes back" like it's full even when it isn't and makes the fuel valve click off. Tom and Ray on Car Talk covered this in a 2007 show and I pasted some of their response below:

"RAY: This condition is probably caused by either a blockage in your gasoline vapor recovery lines or a bad refueling control valve.

TOM: Gasoline vaporizes. How do we know that? Well, when gasoline is spilled, you can smell it, right? What you're smelling is vaporized gasoline.

RAY: And in the old days, when you filled up your tank, all the air inside the tank -- the air filled with gasoline vapors -- came whooshing out through the filler hole or through a vent at the top of the gas tank.

TOM: But then people in places like Los Angeles realized they couldn't see the person standing next to them due to smog. And since gasoline vapors contribute to smog, car makers were forced to install devices to capture those vapors.

RAY: So now each car has a vapor recovery unit that collects the gasoline vapors from the tank and then, the next time the car is started, sends them to the engine, where they're combusted. Your vapor recovery system isn't working, Lottie. One possibility is that one of the rubber hoses is blocked or collapsed."

Gasoline pump at gas station keeps turning off

There is a vent valve located near the fuel tank. The vent valve is part of the EVAP emission system. If the valve is obstructed or failed, air will not escape while refueling.
