Question about Frigidaire Affinity FAQG7077KN 7.0 Cu. Ft. Gas Dryer - Classic Blue

1 Answer

The vent/grate in the back of the dryer is burning all of our clothes and leaving residue on the ones that it doesn't totally destroy. It was purchased in January 2010 and has been going on for a couple months now. It looks like this is a documented issue with many of the frigidaire dryers...one service call from their "approved service " people is 70 dollars... I dont have that money to blow on just someone driving out. Any tips on how to get this fixed.

Call Frigidaire, Customer Service, be nice, calm and explain that you need to talk to an experienced dryer repair person.

If you get no help there, call a local small business repair shop, or better yet, go over to their shop and see if they will let you pick their brain. Be sure to take with you the MAKE AND MODEL NUMBER of the dryer.

If the unit is not in warranty any longer, let them know you know it is a documented issue and if it is a quick fix, you would like to handle it, but if it is a timely fix, set an appointment with them and have them come out.

My first suggestion would be for you to take your dryer apart so you can see into the cabinet. Check the LINT DUCT TUBING, disconnect and clean out the duct totally from the inside of the dryer all the way to the outside of the house. A clogged up LINT DUCT VENT can cause the exact problem your talking about because maybe the DAMP LINT has not be blown all the way out of the tubing.

  • Two things that are death to a dryers efficiency, is 1. too many turns in the route of the vent hose to get out of the house, 2. Ducting could be clogged because there is a restriction in the duct. It could be a dead varmint (do not laugh, I have seen worse) or a simple buildup of damp lint over the years and now the flow of the dryer is not strong enough to blow the damp lint past the blockage. A dryers lint hose should be cleaned out at least once a year. Your clothes will dry faster, and last longer and so will your machine. Be sure you clean that LINT HOSE DUCT VENT... Very important, also it reduces the major chance of a home or garage fire due to the lint being ignited, because it is too clogged.

kindly,
Jim

SOURCE: Brown streaks on clothes

mich, The brown streaks are probably caused by worn drum guides and lower basket seal. I've seen this quite often on Frigidaire dryers. Part numbers 5303937139 upper felt guide and 5303283286 lower basket seal. This can be a task for an inexperienced person but can be done. It requires removing the top panel and front panel/door assy. The old guides have to be scraped off. The upper felt guides and lower seal glue on. Catriver...post back.

SOURCE: Frigidaire Gallery Heavy Duty Front Load Dryer problem

it's probably the nylon bushings that the drum rides on. they wear out and the drum rides directly on the pad that the bushings attach to.

SOURCE: Wire Scraping sound and sparks inside rear dryer drum area.

Probably the rear bearing has failed and caused the drum to rub against the heating element. Hey, is this the guy that said he heard a noise last month? LOL

Gas lights up for about 5 minutes and then burns out. Try to turn on dryer again, but flame won't light. I let dryer sit for aout 30 minutes and turn on again - flame starts up, but will only last...

If the flame is shutting of before it reaches the operating temperatures the likely failure is a restricted venting system. There is a high limit thermostat that will cause the flame to shut off if there is a lack of airflow due to a restriction in the vent system. Remove the lint filter screen and clean in with soap and water. The filter may appear clean but it could have a clear film of fabric softener residue covering it causing a restriction in the air flow too. After cleaning the filter reinstall it before running the next test.

For testing purposes only, disconnect the dryer vent hose from the back of the dryer and put a normal load of clothes in the dryer and start the dryer. If the clothes dry in the normal amount of time that would confirm a restriction in the vent hose or the venting system. NOTE: Do not leave the vent hose disconnected after running the test. Reconnect the vent hose.

You will likely find the clothes drying in the normal amount of time indicating a restriction in the venting.

Smell carbon monoxide in the clothes and outside from the vent but the vent is clear with good airflow but with a carbon monoxide smell

Hi,
The burner may not be burning right and leaving a gas odor but you cannot smell CO it is totally odorless... that is why it is so dangerous...
Check for lint build up in the air shutter of the burner...

When drying clothes in my gas dryer, you can smell gas upon opening the door. If the dryer is not running, you do not smell a gas odor. Sometimes our clothes also have a gas smell. This just started a week...

Hi, from what you describe, it sounds like you may have incomplete combustion, which would leave a residual odor while burning. Check your vent, on the outside where the flap opens and the exhaust leaves the building. Anything blocking that vent may cause an air flow problem. If you have good air flow when the dryer is running, the problem is going to be at the gas valve/burner and may need a professional. In my town, the gas company will come out and check problems like this for no charge, they don't replace parts but are good at troubleshooting. Best of luck.

Kenmore Electric Dryer Series 80 Model

Disconnect the dryer from your vent completely,. pull dryer out 3 ft. from wall and test to see if the smell continues, You have to test for a few minutes to clear out any burning lint from vent restrictions. If the smell hoes away then you know you have venting problems. Also check on the grate that covers the element( the part you look through when you see the orange glow from the element) sometimes plastic or clothing burns onto this grate and needs to be cleaned off. I the smell remains, you will have to tear down the dryer to see if you can find the cause of the smell.

Burning smell during drying cycle, coming from the inside back left grate. The grate appears discolored.

Usually when a gas dryer overheats it's because of a defective cycling thermostat or a clogged vent system. Clean any lint from the internal and external ductwork, and/or replace the cycling thermostat . If you don't clean out the lint trap frequently, your dryer may have small lint fires inside the cabinet. The smell from these fires can leave a strong odor in the clothes drum.

Also, if there are any solvents, paints, lacquers, etc. in use in the house, your dryer may alter and/or amplify the fumes to an odor unlike the natural fumes given by the solvent, paint, etc.

Here's what to do:

  • First, clean all of the lint from the inside cabinet and ductwork of your dryer.

  • Have a qualified appliance repair technician inspect the dryer for damage caused by any lint fire.

  • Move all containers of flammable liquids at least 50 feet away from the dryer. Gas dryers have a large flame when operating properly and can ignite the fumes of any flammable liquid or gas.

  • Then, try to clear the odor, by running a couple of loads of old rags or towels.
