Ok
u have to set boot option in bios setup for boot winxp disk.
for that when u power up the computer prerss F2 or "del" key to enter in bios setup
then go to boot otion and set first boot device to your cdd driver or dvd drive.
then save settings
then u can boot your computer with disk.

Im on my pc and im wondering where i can find a free download that can help me i get this message on my toshiba satellite a85s107... File missing or corrupt: \windows\system32\config\system\

Assuming you already tried pressing F8 on boot up and trying to get it into safe mode to run a disc check and that did not work?

This is a configuration file that can only be repaired by the use of OS installation CD, which if the laptop is booted with the disc in the drive and the bios is sett o boot from the DVD drive first, will give you the option to carry out a repair of the installation

PREINST6.SWM missing; PREINST9.SWM missing; Error:10-FC06-0002

Means pre-installion is missing. Which means yoou either have to Reinstall a fresh copy of your windows or your can reinstall your windows by just repairing the files. Its always good to make a recovery disk after every install. If you haven't tried it already restart your pc press f8 as the scene pops up and go to Last good configuration.

"NTLDR is missing" message on boot-up.

That message appears when Windows cannot boot. You may run a repair using your Windows CD. Just start your PC with the CD in the drive and follow the choices in the screen.Remember select REPAIR, not Install, as you will end loosing all your files.

Laptop won't start up in Windows due to a missing or corrupt file

No all you have to do is follow its instructions and use the Windows XP cd and during startup boot to the cd and during installation choose the repair option.

This will not make you lose any files and then you will be able to get in and back to work or whatever it is for again.

Missing or corrupt

HI,

You canrecovery the MIssing file, by installing the OS
Don't go for installation ,give Repair the option
when you boot up the Lpatop,
press either F2 or Del, this will get you into the cmos settings, navigate to advanced cmos settings and normally at the top line is the boot sequence which will say HDD, press either up/down keys or + - keys to change to cdrom as first boot device, save settings and exit.
Insert you cd rom before the system boots into windows and the option prompting you to press enter to boot from cd will appear for 30seconds.
ok---enter---repair-- in this option it will recover the missing files.

It won't boot

Hello maybelle,

Your system is corrupted, files needed to boot up windows was corrupt or it was deleted accidentally, the only solution that can correct the problem is provide installation disc(windows installer) and insert it to the CD ROM and boot your system to CD DOM and follow the the on screen instruction.
(note: installation of Operating system can lost your important files, back up the files)

installation of OS refer to this info: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/winxp/install.mspx

please do not rate me if the solution not solve the problem.

if need more info, please notify me, i will give you more information.

best regards.

Missing or corrupt windows\system32\config\system file in XP

sciberteach:
Go in the BIOS, in the boot sequence make your DVD player as the 1st number device to boot from, restart your machine and do follow the article (you should know the admin password to go into the system drive):
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545
Note: If you are too overwhelmed then your Product recovery DVD will give you your original OS and all settings back.
Good luck!
