Question about Computers & Internet
Assuming it is not a service provider issue, and you have not made any changes to your connection settings, it is more than likely an issue with your email index. The Mac OS X Mail application keeps it's own index of all your emails. This index can get bloated as your email index increases. Try emptying out your "Deleted Mail" folder and use a free maintenance and optimization tool like OnyX to delete the email cache and rebuild the email index. Moreover, I get better performance using an IMAP email server instead of a POP email server. If that option is available with your current email provider, I highly recommend switching to that kind of server connection.
