SOURCE: Kenmore elite dishwasher leaves food particles on dishes

If someone is putting dishes in the washer and obstructing the spray ams that would cause food to stay on dishes. After loading dishwasher and pushing in baskets make sure the spray arm doesnt hit any of the dishes causing them to not clean properly. If that doesnt work or is definately not your problem try removing the spray arm and seeing if it has food inside of it. Some times they get food build up in them and need to be flushed out.

SOURCE: Kenmore portable dishwasher not draining

Your dishwasher pump ejects the water. The pump is usually mounted directly to the motor, then attached to the bottom of the dishwasher. You can reach the pump from inside the dishwasher, but first you need to remove the lower rack, the spray arm, and the spray arm support.

Look for an impeller--a round plastic fan blade-type of device that spins around. This is the wash impeller, which forces the water through the spray arm. Beneath the wash impeller is the drain impeller, which is similar in size and shape to the wash impeller. The drain impeller pushes the water toward the drain port. These components make up the pump. If any of the pump components are defective, you need to replace them.

Drain valve and/or solenoid Many dishwashers use a drain valve with an electric solenoid. When electricity flows to the solenoid, the valve opens and diverts the water to the drain. Sometimes the solenoid, or the diverting lever, sticks and prevents the dishwasher from draining or filling properly. Try to free up the solenoid to lubricate the lever. Otherwise, you may have to replace the solenoid or pump assembly. With these systems, the motor always rotates in one direction. When it's energized, the drain valve diverts the water.

Other dishwashers simply reverse the direction of the motor to drain the dishwasher. These units don't have a drain valve. Instead, there's a drain hose connected directly to the pump housing.

Belt One brand of dishwasher uses a belt to drive the pump. If this belt is broken or has fallen off, replace it.

Motor If the motor isn't turning or working, the unit won't drain. First check to be sure you have power to the dishwasher. If not, see the section "It doesn't work at all." If the motor hums but doesn't turn, it may need to be replaced.

Some dishwashers are susceptible to getting stuck if you don't run them regularly. If you haven't run the dishwasher for more than a week, you may need to manually spin the motor to free it up. If the motor is defective, you need to replace it. Dishwasher motors can't be serviced.

Kenmore elite dishwasher 665.12793k311 will not drain automatically. Drains fine when drain button is pressed. Has been running perfect for the past 14 months then all of a sudden stopped draining aut

Wow, that's interesting! I would have guessed the control module (control circuit board) too. But, once upon a time, I encountered a similar situation, and the problem turned out to be the drain pump! It seems like that after the dishwasher ran in the main cycle (where the heater is used to heat up the water), the heat somehow made the drain pump stop working! I don't know if it made the motor wires expand and break a connection, or if the heat made the seals of the motor expand or somehow impeded the free-turning of the motor, but replacing that drain pump fixed the problem! If you want to try this, I would really like hearing back from you on whether or not that fixes your problem. Good luck!

Why kenmore elite dishwasher will not drain?

If it is connected to a disposal remove the drain hose and check for a restricted area in the hose or disposal this is common also check the drain hose for kinks be sure to elevate the hose before the drain area. If the drain hose is clear and the drain is clear then you could have a bad drain pump in the dishwasher. Most problems are a restricted drain or hose

Gene, I have a Kenmore Elite model # 665

Hey Steve,Sorry it took me so long to answer i was offline and my add is not supposed to displayed when i am off line so sorry about that.
Now then on that dishwasher with the hum and no water circulation it sounds as if the main wash motor is jammed up for some reason it could be that the motor itself is defective or as simple as something such a piece of debris such as broken glass or almost anything caught in the motor causing it to not turn on,by disassembling the wash motor you can see if something is caught in,if nothing is caught in its a (sorry to say) the motor itself thats bad and would need to replaced. The reason the water drains even though it will not circulate is because of the separate drain pump that is working Please reply back after disassembling the pump to check for debris if ya need further assistance.
Thanks for using Fixya.Com,GENE

Dishwasher will not drain water

Drain out is done via the pump out motor. Is the pump out motor working? Check by deternining with a AC voltmeter to see if supply voltage is across the terminals in pump out mode. If voltage is present and motor does not spin - the motor is open circuit and must be replaced. Remove the 2 clamps and the 2 electrical push on terminals with the MAINS voltage disconnected. Is the outlet pipe not blocked or obstructed ?

Elite will not drain

If the water doesn't drain from your dishwasher, check these:
  1. Drain line/air gap--A clog in this part is the usual reason that a dishwasher doesn't drain. Remove the drain line to clear any debris from the hose or hose connection at the household drain line connection. Reattach the hose before starting the dishwasher again.
  2. Pump--You can reach the pump from inside the dishwasher. Remove the lower rack, spray arm and support. Look for an impeller, a device that spins around and forces water through the spray arm. This is the wash impeller and beneath it is the drain impeller that pushes the water into the drain port. Replace it if found defective or worn out.
  3. Drain valve/solenoid---The drain valve may have a solenoid with lever that sticks or frozen and prevents the dishwasher from draining. Free up the solenoid and lubricate the lever.
  4. Belt---A certain brand of dishwasher uses a belt to drive the pump. Replace it if broken or worn out.
  5. Motor---Check it if turning or working.Turn the rotor manually to see if stuck and free it up. Replace if defective, it is not serviceable.
