Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I just purchased a XFX GeForce 8800 GT 512MB Alpha Dog Recetified video card to intall into a Dell Optiplex GX620 medium tower computer. It fits fine but there is a place on the back of the video card for a 6 pin PCIE power header and there isn't any wires coming off of the power supply that will fit this receptacle. Can I get an adaptor to fix this or do I have to upgrade my power supply?

It's best to upgrade the power supply but there are adapters to use with a spare 4 pin molex coming from the psu & making it into a 6 pin pcie plug. You can check a source like cables2go.com to see what is available for your system. Hope this helps.

If the pc works the same when you boot in Safe Mode then the video card has failed - buy a new one.
If the pc works in Safe Mode then the video driver is corrupted - uninstall it then reboot normally then go here and download the latest available driver.

Nvidia geforce 8800 gts code 43 due to vista home premium

Well if you installed the correct drivers for your video card and have the proper power supply requirements, then the vertical lines you're getting most likely indicate that your video card is bad.

Try it in another computer if available, or get another video card.

No video

HI,
You can go into the BIOS , under onboard devices. Change the primary video controller to PCI.
refer to the following screen
http://supportapj.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim4700/sm/syssetup.htm#wp1052347

If the cards are not detected on the board. Then the problem could be of the PCIe slot .
