Question about Electrical Supplies

1 Answer

I have a 15000 watt generac generator and in the past this unit burned up a circuit board and it was replaced. she ran good it sat up for 4months and now she wont crank. I cleaned out the carb replaced the fuel. the fuel pump works so eney way the fuel solenoid does not work on the switch I jumped the solenoid and still wont crank it will run for only 2 seconds. I replaced the spark plugs and I notice that one of the plugs seems to have a lot fire than the other one almost to much does that make since? maybe I have an electric problem like a stator issue???.

No it isn't a stator issue a complete check of the ignition and control needs looking at.

SOURCE: cranks fast but wont start

Hi, You did a good job of diagnosing your problem. Gas in bowl and dry plugs, starts with fluid, But, to quote you, "won't go through carb" . If you feel confident, you should disassemble and clean the carb, as that is going to be the problem. As a tip, if the genset is going to sit make sure to turn off the fuel flow to the engine and run till the engine dies. They do not like to sit any length of time with fuel in the carb. Good Luck, this should Fixya!

SOURCE: I have a Generac 15000 watt portable generator. It

I have solved the flooding problem . unfortanetly you must remove the carb to fix it. once you remove the carb you need to remove the fuel bowl. In the bottem of the fuel bowl there is a electronic seloniod that controols the amount of fule going to combustion. this aria had varnish and gunk built up around the plunger of the selonoid, long story short clean this out with carb and chook cleaner and put it back together. start her up and she will run like a champ.

Check the governor and throttle for easy movement. When the load increases, the governor should advance the throttle to keep the speed up.

a weak battery will cause the 15 amp system fuse to blow, even though the battery can still actually start the generator.

Have you checked the fuse? Mine keeps blowing the fuse (located on the back of the control panel) with each startup and shutdown or use of idle control.

My Guardian 16KW

I have never heard that generators need to be perfectly level to prevent generator damage. It doesn't compute -- auto generators/alternators run at all sorts of angles -- so do motors. And for the damage to occur in 2 hours running doesn't sound right either.

It does sound like the generator itself is not working/generating properly, but I doubt it was caused by the slab.
