Question about ASUS Computers & Internet

Open Question

I'm trying to extend my screen on my Acer ultrabook to my Asus LED monitor. It isn't the best configuration, the monitor is older with a low resolution; only with VGA and DVI inputs while the computer only has a HDMI output (I have it connected with a hdmi to vga converter). But I somehow made it work a few weeks ago, but now all I get is "No Signal"; I found a discussion in this forum (I think) about some glitch with the ASUS monitor and the order for which things need to be plugged in and turned on, but now I can't find it. In the past I received the error "Signal out of range" and I could change the resolution in the display properties to make it work, but now I only receive the "No signal" on the external monitor. My video card is Intel HD Graphics 3000; it appears to be working properly, both on the built in display and I am able to extend my screen to my TV without any problem. When I open the display properties (with the monitor connected), the computer senses the display and shows that everything is configured correctly; but the external monitor continues to say "No Signal". Additionally none of the buttons on the monitor seem to work except power (so I can't get into the monitor menu). It seems like there is some magical combination and order in which you need to plug in the monitor and power up the computer and the monitor to make it work (but I can't figure it out). Any suggestions?

kkjsr00, You must narrow down the faulty component!!! You must prove what is working and what is not working!! Beg, borrow, steal a "known-good" monitor to prove your pc is operating perfectly and will display the WIN-desktop screen on it. If your pc is A-ok then visit this web blog:
http://www.lesliewong.us/blog/2005/05/02/hp-pavilion-f1703-flat-panel-display-blackout-solution/ kkjsr00, when strange and weird stuff starts to appear on the screen of "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamp" back-lit lcd displays the first place I would look at would be the units internal "switch-mode-power-supply/ccfl inverter supply".. No, No, No, unit not going to sleep!!! SMPS/inverter going into SHUTDOWN mode having detected a fault condition with itself or other circuit and is trying to save itself from catastrophic, nonrecoverable failure. e.g. smoke, fire, burn down house, etc. Do some reading in my profile and those of other fixya tech's and you will find more than enough info to help with your problem. Good luck with repair of "flakey" solder joint or bad electrolytic filter capacitor PLAGUE problem. Yes, you sure have a lot of reading to do!! 12fixlouie or old file is louie12fix also try "buddymc" , "budmrtn" profiles for more info.

What is the best brand of monitor without lot of problem like black screen orange stand by light?

Any known brand, such as Samsung, Dell, Acer etc.

The main thing with monitors these days is to choose one that is LED back lit. LCD's use inverters that are very power hungry and they tend to burn out capacitors after a couple of years of use.

LED how ever are very low energy and don't need an inverter circuit to power the LED's, thus MUCH better life time.

Asus ultrabook has black screen

restart and HOLD the keys CTRL or FN+f11 or f12 depend of you marks, and go to restore factory default and ready
However if the problem persist, take out the small battery lithium inside from +3vdc and mesure with VOM, if the voltage is lower from the 3 replace it, and clean the contacts. This battery hold the information in memory RAM. try again.
If the problem persist, you have problem with control board video/lcd, go to the repair shop for fix it.
God bless you

What Operating System you are using on your Intel Acer Aspire S3 Ultrabook?
If you had the problem because of installing a new driver, try using the F8 button right before your windows starts and restore the Ultrbook back to "Last Known Good Configuration"

Connecting asus M51V to Panasonic TH-42PX8A plasma via HDMI

Hi

Make sure your TV does indeed support the resolutions you are trying to use. Some low quality HDMI cables can also be troublesome in higher resolution so try one you are sure to work.

Regarding to the desktop only being extended when using the RGB cables, try bringing up the desktop properties window, select the TV as the primary monitor and select "Use this monitor as Primary monitor". You might have to drag the windows Taskbar over to the other monitor, just rightclick the taskbar, uncheck "Lock the Taskbar" and drag it over to the other monitor.

Hope you find this solution helpful, and please rate it if you do so..

best regards,

Karl

Hooking up a second ACER monitor as an extended desktop

I have 2 acer AL2016W's and have the same problem. The earlier ones with the VGA only are the problem from what I can see, they just don't play nicely with the video card for some reason.
First, on your main monitor, click "Show displays in menu bar" on your monitor control panel. This will let you set the resolution for each monitor from the main one, click on the little monitor icon on the top right screen to do this.
If that doesn't work try this:
Connect one acer as the main monitor and one crappy vga crt monitor as the second.
Set mirrored desktop in the system preferences so that the crappy CRT is displaying the exact same resolution as the acer. (1680x1050 59.9Hz)
Disable mirrored desktop. You should now have an acer and a crappy CRT both running 1680x1050 in extended desktop mode.
Shut down, reconnect the acer in place of the crappy CRT.
This should "trick" your video card into having the right resolution, otherwise you'll just get the stupid "input not supported" screen, with no ability to auto configure or use any of the built in controls.

Monitor Acer Problem

I agree it isn?t the monitor but I would suspect the video card you are connecting it to or the PC itself. Generally if a monitor doesn?t detect a video signal it will go into hibernation mode, typically displaying a no signal warning and changing the LED color from green to amber. When you start the computer is anything displaying at all? Are you sure the PC is powering up and booting?
