If you have a dvd of any other OS .... insert into Drive .... when you turn on have it go to setup ... usually hit F2....
turn on the cd/dvd drive as first drive to load
save
reboot
now your into your machine

SOURCE: laptop not used for some years. could enter bios

I received an IBM laptop with same issue a few months back. The error message due to the drained out CMOS RTC (coin-cell battery), which retains and other BIOS settings.
The system is OK and all you have to do is to get the CMOS/RTC battery replaced by the a professional.
Good Luck!

SOURCE: I'm still having trouble wih my thinpad: When I

Sounds like it could be a problem with the hard drive itself.

First thing you should try is booting the laptop with the hard drive removed.

Let me know what happens, you will get an error message (related to the hard drive of course not being installed)

IBM thinkpad r30 keeps telling me that theat system batery is dead and transfer me to bios utility

There is the back up bios battery which is on the mother board and it could be low on the voltage- 3 V-
You can find it from the outside near the memory card or in the slot by removing the bottom hatch screws.
Remove and replace.

Need hard drive for ibm thinkpad r30 2656 not sure what kind or size

I think you will find support on Lenovo's web sites for older IBM Thinkpads. Have a web search on google or bing or whatever.
Search words: "Hard drive" "IBM Thinkpad"
Here is their homepage:

I have an IBM Thinkpad R30 laptop. Where can I

Here is the link to your service manual. I do not believe the unit has a "switch", it can be enabled and disabled through the device manager on windows. Control Panel > system > hardware > device Manager, scroll down to network devices and check to see if it is listed and either enable it or disable, whichever you want.
