Hi Jeff...
It takes a special air compressor oil for your compressor.
Go to the nearest Walmart, Loews, or Home Depot and purchase the oil for your air compressor.
To find the oil level look on the stick that measures the oil and it will give you a fill level.

SOURCE: Campbell Hausfeld Air Compressor won't start

The compressor starting problem is common to most of the small portable compressors. Poor design and undersized components are to blame. If you have one of these units i suggest looking into a product called the Smart Start by Conrader Valves. It is interchangeable with the standard air filters and allows the compressor to start without fail. check it out- www.conrader.com.

What type of oil to add

Mobile synthetic 10-30 , Craftsman compressor oil if K-mart or Sears are near by. You can also use a non-detergent 10 - 30 motor oil , I use Mobile or Craftsman in mine. I have three - one is a Campbell Hausfeld this oil is per their book - (minus the Craftsman)

Make sure you are running compressor oil in it. Not motor oil.
