Question about Texas Instruments TI-83 Plus Calculator

# Navigation I use the calc. for elem. statistics. Are there simple steps to enter info to make lists. For example when finding the mean, median, etc ? When making a calulation on the next empty line after the results (ex. mean, max,etc) I can't scroll up to look at the results anymore. I am forced to come out and start over !! How can I continue to review my data without having to waste precious time leaving and struggling to return to the my data ? Unfortunately, the ti83 manual isn,t straightfoward, in the least!!!! I have an upcoming exam , I need to be able to use this calculator (beast), please respond quickly . THANKS !!!!!

When you make a list, in order to get out of it, you must press 2nd mode (quit). Do NOT press clear, it will delete your list. I think this is what you mean, I hope I was a help.

### What is medium of 2,4,6,6,7,8,10,11,13

https://www.easycalculation.com/statistics/mean-median-mode.php

The mean (average) is the sum divided by the number of items regardless of individual values. Here is is 7.4444, rounded off.

The median is the middle number in the group, listing in ascending order. You have 9 items. The fifth one as four above it and four below it. It is a 7. (A selected group of numbers is referred to as a data set. If taken from a larger group, the selection is referred to as a subset.)

The mode is the most frequently listed number. Only the 6 repeats itself in this example. That makes it the most frequently repeated number.

### How do i sort out random numbers?

Here is a sequence of screen captures that illustrates how you do 1-var statistics. I believe it is clear enough.
To sort tap EDIT and select Sort (ascending)
To perform 1-var stats Tap CALC and select one-variable.
Specify the list where the data is (list1), if you have repeated entries you should create a frequency list ( in L2). If no frequency list, frequency is set to 1.
Once you get the stats you can scroll down to read Q1,Q2, Median, etc.

### How do you find the standard deviation using the list function when you place values in two lists? (Casio fx-9750GII)

It depends what the two list mean.
If you are doing 1-var statistics you may want to enter the frequency of a data element (if some are repeated) in the list L2.
In that case when you run the CALC 1-Var , you first press the F6 key to set the lists Data List1, and Frequency List 2.
Once you set the lists, press the F1 key to select 1-var. The calculator will give all the statistics of the distribution.

If you are doing 2-var stats SET the lists and press F2 2-var. The calculator will give you the x-statistics, followed by the y-statistics.

### Can you please help me on how to calculate mean, median, mode, standard deviation calculation on casio fx-991ms scientific calculator

This will show you how to do statistics (calculate average, standard deviation, regressions etc.) as to the mode and median refer to the definitions.

TO COMPUTE STANDARD DEVIATION AND 2-VAR STATISTICS.

I assume you know the theory. I will show you the key strokes

For 1-Var statistics
Press [MODE][3:STAT] [1:1-VAR]. You are ready to enter values in the X column.
Enter a number and press [=]. Cursor jumps to second number to enter.
Keep entering numbers and pressing [=] till all numbers are in. Press the [=] key after the last one.
Press [AC] key to clear the screen.
Press [SHIFT] [STAT] (above digit 1.) then [5:Var]. Screen displays the statistical variables 1:n ;2: x bar; 3: x sigma n; 4:x sigma n-1.
Press the number corresponding to the statistical value you want, ex 1:n . The variable appears on screen. Press [=] and it will be displayed.
To display another variable press [SHIFT][STAT][5:Var][ 1,2, 3, or 4] .

To access the sum of squares sigma x^2 and the sum of data sigma x press[SHIFT][STAT][4:SUM] then [1: for sigma x^2] or [2: for sigma x]. Press [SHIFT][STAT][6:MinMax] to access minX and maxX.

For 2-var statistics
To perform 2 variable statistics you press [MODE][3:STAT] and any of the other regression options (except 1:1-Var). A two column template opens where you enter the X and Y values. When finished entering data, press [SHIFT][STAT][5:Var]. to access the different statistics. As I assumed above, you should be able to recognize what each variable means.

### Create a scatter plot of the data

The drawing of the scatter plot proper is explained in the last part (Part F). You might want to jump right to it.

Before doing statistics, you have to prepare the calculator by clearing old data that may generate errors.

A. TO CLEAR OLD DATA
1. Press [2nd][+] (MEM) to open the memory management screen.
2. Press [4:ClrAllLists]
3. The command echoes on main screen, press [ENTER] to run it.
4. Calculator displays Done.
B. RUN the SETUP EDITOR Command
1. Press [STAT][5:SetUpEditor] [ENTER] ; calculator displays Done.
C. TURN DIAGNOSTICSON option (optional)

To obtain the correlation coefficient in a statistical analysis on the TI8xPlus family of calculators you must activate the DIAGNOSTICSON option. To access the command
1. You press [2nd] [0] (CATALOG)
2. While the list of commands is displayed, press [X^-1] (D)
3. Cursor jumps to first command that starts with D, dayOfWk(
4. Press the DownArrow 9 times to reach DIAGNOSTICSON
5. Select it and press [ENTER]
6. Command echoes on main calculator screen with blinking cursor
7. Press [ENTER] to set the option
8. Calculator displays Done.
From now on, if a correlation coefficient has meaning for a regression model, it will be calculated along with the other statistical results. If it has no meaning to the model it will not be calculated.

D. ENTER THE DATA
Press [STAT][1:Edit]
Type in your D (X ) values in L1 and the N (Y) values in L2 (see picture 1). Sorry the picture does not have YOUR values.

TO OBTAIN statistical RESULTS (optional)
1. After you finish entering the data, press [2nd][Quit] to exit StatEditor.
2. Press [STAT] and highlight Menu (CALC)
3. In the list select [2:2-Var Stats]
4. Command echoes on main screen.
5. Press [ENTER] to calculate the stats
Here is what you get (THESE~ARE NOT YOUR RESULTS). Your results will be different.

Notice the Down Arrow next to n=7. That means the results screen has more values. Press the Down Arrow to display.

You notice that the n=7 line now has an arrow pointing Up. Notice the Down Arrow on the bottom line (more data is coming). Here is the rest of the statistical results.

There is no arrow at the bottom of the picture. End of statistical results.
The screen captures with 2-Var Stats summarize all the statistics.

However there is no correlation coefficient, no line of best fit, etc. To obtain that you have To perform a regression analysis.

E. PERFORM A REGRESSION ANALYSIS
To perform a regression analysis, you must try several regression models and then find the one that mimicks the raw data best. Select Regression model (Example Exponential, linear, sine, quadratic, etc.) Here I selected Exponential
1. Press [STAT] , highlight [CALC]
2. In the list of regression models select [0:ExpReg]
3. The command ExpReg echoes on main calculator screen.
4. If you press [ENTER] you will get your equation but you will not be able to draw the curve on top of your data to verify the goodness (no it is not a swear word) of the fit. So you must save the equation as a function in Y1 variable.
5. While ExpReg command is still in command line, press the [VARS] key.
6. Highlight the [Y-VARS] menu and select [1:Function], then press [ENTER].
7. In the Y function variable list select [1:Y1]
8. At the command line, you have ExpReg Y1.
9. Press [ENTER] to save the equation of best fit in Y1.

You also have r and its square.

Since the equation is saved in the Y1 function it can be superposed on the scatter plot. You just have to press GRAPH and it will be drawn. But that will not tell how good the fit is, until you see the function drawn on top of the raw data.

F. DRAWING THE SCATTER PLOT AND BEST FIT CURVE ON SAME SCREEN

Regardless of the curve of best fit, you can draw a scatter plot as follows.
1. Press [2nd][Y=] (STATPLOT)
2. Select [1:Plot1...Off] and press ENTER to open plot1 configuration screen
3. Use arrow to highlight On and press ENTER
4. Use the Down Arrow to move cursor to the line Type.
5. Select the first icon for a scatter plot. NOTE: To navigate the 6 statistical stat plots on the line Type, use the right or left arrow (to backtrack), but not the Up or down arrows.
Here is the configuration screen

Here plot1 is active (ON), it is scatter plot (first icon) the XLIST is L1 by default but you can change it to some other list. Notice the highlighted A cursor on XLIST line. It means that the [ALPHA] keyboard is active.
On the line Mark you can choose the appearance of the raw data point.

And here are your two graphs: the raw data scatter plot and the line of best fit on the same screen. On the picture the ZoomStat option was used.

Now, it is up to you to accept this model or to try another model.

### Hello. I just wanted to ask you how do I calculate the variance and standard deviation in my cfx9850GB plus. I had a quick look at the manual but I couldnt find the info. thankz .

This shows you how to enter your data and calculate some statistical values. Keep in mind that the variance is the square of the standard deviation.

In the main menu select [STAT] icon to enter Stat mode and display the statistical data lists. Use the statistical data lists to input data and perform statistical calculations. Use the arrows to move the highlighting around the lists.
Example: Enter the following values in List 1
1st line enter 90 [EXE]
2nd line 85 [EXE]
3 79 [EXE]
4 75 [EXE]
5 70 [EXE]
6 68 [EXE]
7 56 [EXE]

When finished you press [F2:Calc], then [F1:1Var] and the statistical results appear on screen.

Title of screen : 1-Variable
x bar =74.7142857
Capital Sigma x= 523
Capita Sigma X squared = 39851
x lower case sigma n = 10.5249945
x lower case sigma n-1= 11.3682934
n = 7
Scroll down with Down arrow to access other data
minX =56
Q1=68
Med =75
Q3=85
Xbar -x lower case sigma n =64.1892911
x bar x lower case sigma n = 85.2392802
maxX=90
Mod=90

All you have to do now, is to look at the theory you learned and interpret what these values mean.

E. PERFORM A REGRESSION ANALYSIS
To perform a regression analysis, you must try several regression models and then find the one that mimicks the raw data best. In this particular case, you have already decided to do a linear regression, and that is good for me. I do not have the time to take you through all of them. In this step you must select the exponential regression model.
1. Press [STAT] , highlight [CALC]
2. In the list of regression models select [0:ExpReg]
3. The command ExpReg echoes on main calculator screen.

8. At the command line, you have ExpReg Y1.
9. Press [ENTER] to save the equation of best fit in Y1.

You also have r and its square. You need to read your theory to know which of the two correlation coefficients you have been asked to obtain.

Since you saved the equation in the Y1 function you can draw it. You just have to press GRAPH and it will be drawn. But that will not tell how good the fit is, until you see the function drawn on top of the raw data.
