Envelope printing without customizing the bypass tray settings

New Ricoh MPC6000 mutlifunction printers. Trying to use the Bypass tray to print envelopes, and it misfeeds. The tech has been out, and the only way he could get it to work was if you configure the bypass tray for custom size & thickness. But then you can't use it for other sizes of paper unless you configure the tray back to autodetect. His explanation was "it wasn't really meant to do envelopes". (Huh? It's a MFP for offices.) We've just placed 9 of these, and can't get envelope printing to work! Ugh. We've always been happy with them before...

All machines are new. All are doing the same thing. I have a call in to our sales rep, who has asked a different tech to weigh in, and I'm waiting for his response, but was hoping to get a different answer. The tech also said that this model is a little different in that it runs all paper thru the duplexer, unless it is specified as "thick 2" or "cardstock". But it isn't getting stuck in the duplexer, it is getting a feed error while in the roller of the bypass tray - it seems to know it isn't the size/thickness of paper it expects. It seems to work if you specify the particular custom size and thickness both on the machine AND at the time of printing, but we do not want to specify a particular size/thickness on the machine for the bypass, because then we'd have to change it if another paper is used. We want it on autodetect.

The bypass tray is "specifically" for envelopes, heavier bonds, etc. The first thing I'd do is call and complain about your tech.
Now, i don't have any experience with this particular model of Ricoh, but I work on lots of other models. It has to be either another paper setting that should be set, or a clutch problem / feed roller problem. Although, a mechanical problem is unlikely if you say you have 6 of these machines? All doing the same thing? That's a little to coincidental.
    Were they new or refurbished?

Some thoughts.

Envelopes won't print from bypass tray. Cause:
Extended tray is not set up properly for envelopes. Solution: thumbsup.gif Fixed! thumbsdn.gif Did not fix. Enter tools "Login" 1,1,1,1,1 Touch buttons with the following names in that order: System Settings System Settings Common Settings Other Settings Scroll down to "Extended Tray" Next to "Extended Tray" it may say "Inverter" if it does go to change settings then change it to "Offset Stacking" Close out tools.

Jams from where? Need more info. Cardstock must be printed from the Bypass Tray ONLY. Make sure you select the proper paper type from the Printer Properties tab in the driver.

How do i print a # 10 business envelope with the bizhub c200

First recommended that you use the bypass tray on the right side, also before placing the envelope in the bypass tray send the print job over first, the screen will say replenish paper then go ahead and place the envelope on the tray. and let it take it or hit the start button Ensure you select #10 commercial media and bypass tray in your print driver preferences. May also want to have tech come out and look at the tray and run MAX and Min. Adjustments.

Resetting the Tray size on a RICOH C4000 Main Printer

When you go into the print properties in Word, you can specify the paper size that will be used in the bypass tray. Depending on which driver you are using, the settings will be a little different, but there should be an option to select the input tray -- Bypass Tray -- and paper size.

As for the orientation, Word will show you a recommendation for how to place the envelope, but this recommendation isn't always right. It's a good idea to run a test envelope through and see which way the addresses print. (The envelopes should always be face down.)

How do I print an envelope with this printer? It says open the bypass tray and load paper, when I do, it does nothing.

The bypass tray is not designed properly, when an envelope is set on the tray, the wheel is not in contact with the envelope. I just lifted the end of the envelope until the wheel could grab it and the envelope printed. So simple :)

Printing on an index card

something else you might try is taping the card to a full-size sheet of paper, so the printer can push it through with ALL the rollers at the same time. not all printers have a roller all the way across, so index cards get snagged by one side, and they'll walk to the opposite side while they're printing.

Toshiba 281C Bypass tray

Problem isn't "solved", but have realized that the issue is related to the fact that the document I am trying to print is formatted for envelopes. When I print a regular word document (letter) it prints fine to the Bypass tray. It must have something to do with the fact that the document is 1000 envelopes. If I print to a PDF file, then print the document to the Bypass Tray I don't seem to have a problem.

How to print envelopes aficio ricio mp c4500

On an MP-C4500, envelopes must be printed using the bypass tray (the fold-out tray on the right hand side). Put the envelope in face-down and tighten the two fences so the envelope is snug.

When printing the envelope, make sure the print driver is set for the correct envelope size. If envelopes tend to jam in the printer, try setting the bypass paper type for thick paper.
