Washing machine is not spinning, and get...

By neptune on Sep 24, 2007

" "
The washing machine fills, then gets stuck before the spin. If I then move the dial to spin and put it on spin it turns back and forth alittle but does not go into a fast spin. Also it appears that the door lock which ususally comes on after it is full of water is not coming on.

Check the maytag class action suit in reguards to the neptune issue. you may be entitled to an exseptional warranty call based on this reguards. there is a problem with both the wax motor and the control board.

the problem is your door lock. if the washer is not getting the signal that is locked it will not go into spin. the wax motor in the door lock unit is probably shot. i wouldreplace the entire door lock unit.

all electrical parts get their signals from the timer assembly. the timer operates of a small motor much like a motor from an ac electric clock. inside the mechanical timer are contacts which make and break according to a preset timer cam which advances throughout the timed cycle. if a contact is burnt or burnt off that function will not operate. if there is a mechanical hangup inside, the timer will not function. replacing the timer can be expensive at about $130. the timer schematic of a washer can be very confusing because certain functions happen the same time as others, while others are actually open. the timer cams and how they are connected appear on the timer open/closed chart. not much help I know but I've pulled many a hair out of my head troubleshooting a maytag.
