got to have fuel, spark, air and compression. your missing one. be sure plug is good. give it a shot of carburetor cleaner. if it starts and dies it is fuel. check compression. take off valve cover and be sure valves are working as they should and gaped correctly.

Why does my petrol mower not restart when hot?

carby settings must be good if you get a good start

try a new spark plug and check spark when hot

could be a faulty coil.....ok when cold .. no good hot
or rings losing compression or leaking valves

'87 Yamaha ProV 50: Will cold start and idle well. After a full throttle 1-2 min run will begin & continue running very rough near idle. Will die without addtl throttle imput.

Hi Roderick:
I'm not familiar with your engine configuration, but on some of the older bikes, vibration eventually can cause a wire to break in the coil. When the engine is cold, the wires make contact and it runs, but as soon as it gets hot, the connection is broken or compromised and the spark quits or drives you crazy.
Since your bike runs when cold and quits when hot, I'd be looking for electrical rather than fuel problems.
Hope this helps.

I have a motovox mvs10 43cc 2hp gas powered scooter and was wondering if there is suppose to be plastic like components in fuel tank and what are reasons that could cause it not to start.

often the is a fuel filter in the tank at the end of the fuel line, if it has deteriorted then yes it could stop it from starting due to a clog in the carb. If ou have good spark then sprat a few puffs of starter fluid into air intake or on the air cleaner ( which should be clean ) . if it starts for a second or two then it's most likely your carb.

I replaced the fuel pump 3 weeks ago, and it mowed ok twice. Now it sputters and wants to stall when I engage the PTO. The fuel filter is new and clean and there is nothing interfering with the blades.

Have you checked spark plugs? I always check the "BIG" three when diagnosing any engine. Compression, spark, and fuel. I recommend buying a compression tester and a spark tester. Check both of those, if ok then make sure your still getting fuel to the carb. If so, try a shot of starting fluid through the aircleaner, if it starts on starting fluid then dies, you have a dirty carb. I would first of all replace plugs and give this unit a tune up. Good luck and happy wrenching!

Got a craftsman leaf blower cranks up and runs fine for about 5 mins then starts losing rpms

ITs hard to diagnose these things over the internet, it could be so many things.
Is this a gradual loss of power? If so; Im sorry to say; that it sounds like its losing compression as it warms up. It is not cost effective to repair the unit.

If the loss of power is more sudden it could be a failing ignition module. Ive even seen spark plugs that quit working when they get hot.

To test this you will need a proper spark tester, laying the spark plug against the head will not provide an accurate assesment, and a can of carb cleaner. Run the unit with the air box cover and filter removed till it fails and immediately give a shot of carb cleaner in the carb and restart. If it starts right up it could be fuel related. IF it doesnt start right up then quickly test for spark. If no spark then its likely the ignition module. If it wont run on the extra fuel and it has spark then it has probably lost compression.

Stihl bg 55 blower runs good for 5 min. then loses power

1) carburetor gaskets/diaphragms may need to be replaced

2) ignition coil may be breaking down when hot

3) check compression when cold, then after it stops, when hot

4) could have a vacuum/pressure leak

*I would investigate carb first

Chainsaw will not start

Remove muffler and check for carbon blockage.
If that is ok check crankshaft seals for leakage.
