    Thanks for your suggestions. I am not working off a server. Just my Apple PowerMac G5. I will try the "Save As" and also start opening files directly through Quark and see if that solves my issue.

    Thanks agian,
    Karen

Hi.

Have you checked your preferences to see if auto-save and auto-backup are on? I assume that you are working off of a server. I am having the same issue when working off our server. If I click to open a file it will create a duplicate with the name "copy1" attached. I can save once only, subsequent saves must be made using "save as". What is actually happening is that the first save is activating the "Stationary Pad" option, that can be seen by "getting info" on the file. If I uncheck that box the file will open normally, but the option will be re-activated after the first save. The only workarounds that I can see is to open files by dragging on to the application, or to use the "Open" command from within quark. This eliminates the duplication, but after the initial save you still have to use the "Save as" command.
I've had the same problem as you guys. I found a little bit of a workaround by opening the file directly in QuarkXpress instead of double clicking on the file to open it. So far it seems to work.

Check out this website http://www.macwindows.com/quark.html it has some good info on how Quark works with AFP servers.
We are having the same duplication of files problem, with Quark 6.52 files opening in Leopard.

A number of folks in the local MUG (Mac Users Group) have said that they have run into weird problems with Leopard when it was installed using the upgrade option. But when they went back and did a clean install (wipe and install) that cleared up the problem.
Thanks Have a nice day.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

Enter a valid product key. If Quark Xpress doesn't nag you for the key with an automatic dialog box, you will probably find the registration info entry in Preferences. If you have already entered the key, something corrupted the key file, so try entering it again.

Quarkxpress 8 quits during launch. Macbook pro OS X 10.5.6

It could be that your quark preferences have corrupted, I would go to your users folder then go into the library folder, then the preferences folder and then the quark folder within the quark folder there should be a file called "XPress Preferences.prf" move this to the trash (But do not delete it yet). When you open quark next it will recreate the preference file and hopefully that will sort it out.

Simplest way is to run disk utility and hit the repair permissions button.

If you want to get all fancy about it you can use the terminal (also in utilities folder) and use chown or chmod. If you want to learn those commands type "man chown" or "man chmod" The man command brings up the manual page.

Much easier to use disk utility though.

Try unlocking them by clicking the lock icon, it would ask for admin password. Each read write permission to yourself.

If this doesn't work, try creating a new super user account on your machine and run Disk utility and ask it to repair your file permission. Launch terminal and type this.

find . -type d -exec chmod 777 {} \;
find . -type f -exec chmod 777 {} \;

or you can try

cd /Volumes

this would display volume name.

chmod 0777 volumeName

Quark picture files

Since you're copying your Quark file to an external HD, I assume that you're also copying the image files? What you should do before copying to the external HD to work on the file at home is under the File Menu, use the 'Collect for Output' feature, which may take a while depending on the size of your file, number of images, etc., but then you can use the Quark file from the xternal hd, and back and forth to your computer without having to relink the picture files all the time.
