Question about Cuisinart DCC-1200 Coffee Maker

1 Answer

Switches itself off before brewing is finished

Our Cuisiart 1200 coffee maker is a few years old. It has worked great until recently when it began turning itself off mid-way through the brewing cycle. The light goes out and we can switch it back on and it completes the brewing of the pot. Sometimes it switches itself off a 2nd or even 3rd time before the pot is brewed. Does anyone have any ideas on whether this a defective switch, thermostat, or possibly the timer that turns it off to keep the pot from boiling dry? Thanks.

Same issue...did you find a solution?

It sounds like a defective thermostat. If you want to further pursue this, let me know.

Hello jlheard,
I recently had this similar problem. If you still have you machine try the following.
Your described problem may be one of two problems. Let's start with the easier solution first. In the DCC 1200 there is a filter "stick or column" in the left rear. Pull it out and remove the clogged carbon filter(s) that are in there. Shine a light into the receptacle and remove the debris in the bottom. It is likely that this is causing the problem with you machine needing to be started on multiple times. See if this solution works. If it does, you might run 8 cups of water and 4 cups of vinegar through to help decalcify the units plumbing. Do this once or twice and then rinse with at least one pot run-through of clean water. If this works then you are good to go.
Next, if this does not solve your problem we can do the following: unplug the unit and lay it on its back. You will need a #10 torx driver (hardware store if you don't have one) to remove the bottom cover plate. There are 4 torx screws holding it on. When removed, you will find 2 orange hoses. Carefully attempt to remove the left hose without splitting. I used a eyeglas screwdriver to loosen it up. If it splits, just cut off the split and stretch it to reconnect when time comes. As you look into the hose you will find a little black valve inside as well a some gunk. Clean it all out with a fine wire as best you can. Rinse well. Attempt to reconnect the hose back onto the pipe. Slip the pipe clamp back into place. Replace the cover and screws and you should be good to go again. This is not as daunting as it may seem. You can do it. :o) Good luck! If this answer helps, please leave positive feedback for me. Much appreciated. Regards, NormanZ

Red light comes on but coffee doesn't brew

If there is a thin water line in your coffee maker, then it can get clogged or could have mineral build up. Keurig coffee maker, you are going to want to descale it every 6 months. Calcium can build up.You need to run a large cup of white vinegar through coffee maker lines. When you run vinegar through there, the coffee will taste nasty, so I would run water in there several times, after the vinegar finishes. Run through until does not taste nasty anymore. Yeah, I do this with my coffee pot 3 times a year. You judge how often you should.
Good luck.

My cuisinart brew central, 8 yrs old and still going strong - until now, just turns off after brewing 1/2 pot of coffee. I can turn it back on easily by hitting the toggle swithch. Just started to do...

Hi, Eight years is unreal. I was going to suggest that the boiler elelment i s starting to fail, but i think it could be a thermal cut out which is positioned on the boiler. Thermal cutouts are connected to the main toggel switch. The thermal cutout turns of the power when activated. You can check it wity a meter (approx 12kOmhs). Id replace the thermal cut out anyway. They do ware out.

Just stopped working. No lights, no clock. Starting brewing for a few seconds then quit working. About a year old.

Contact Cuisinart directly. They have a three year warranty on all of their appliances and they are the only ones in the country authorized to do service on their machines.

Cuisinart coffeemaker DCC-450 switch keeps turning off by itself.

There is a defect with your coffee maker. It uses a momentary switch, but is supposed to stay on for 30 minutes. I believe there is a common failure due to heat sensitivity of an IC on the board. I suspect this is a timer chip. See my other postings on this.

Once you turn the machine on, it should automatically start to grind, unless you press the Grind Off button to make it stop.

Coffee maker shuts off too quickly

It seems this coffeemaker insists on shutting itself off after 4 hours,
or whatever "auto-off" time you've programmed in. The only work-around I've found is to switch it to "Brew" and cycle the power switch off and on every time you pour a cup. That will start a new
4-hour timer cycle. Since the pot's still hot, it will go quickly to the
"brewing done" state and render 5 beeps.

My DCC-1200 won't turn on

I called Cuisinart. There is no way to fix it. If your coffee maker is still under warranty (3 years) they will replace it. Otherwise, its next stop is the landfill.
