You need to open the lid and you will see the cartridges. It is easy to replace them don't use extensive force. Read the manual that came with the printer or download it from the Brother website

Linux O/S, driver installed. Reports data sending to Printer, then says printing complete. Nothings comes out of the printer; test pages won't print.

Is this a new problem or did it once work and now something's changed, please?

If it prints from your other computer, what happens if you delete then reinstall the drivers on the suspect computer?

How can i check which ink are out

Your printer should have come with a disk. This disk would have installed the necessary program that runs printing jobs, as well as keeps track of the ink level. Locate this program on your computer (may be under All Programs, Accessories under the Start Menu).
If not, Go into the Control Panel: (see below)
carsandcomps_3.jpg

Above, you see "Hardware and Sound"; and below that shows "View Devices and Printers. Click on this. It will then bring you into the below dialogue box, of which shows any and all printers currently installed and which are being used. (see below)

Once you have located your printer here - (name etc). Go into your Start Menu: In the Search Box at the bottom type "programs"; look for the words "show which programs are installed on your computer", should be the fourth in the list. Below is what the list will look like. Find your printer here to ensure it's installed.

Once you have determined it's installed, you need to locate the printer program in your file system. Once you retrieve this, click it to open it. The program should allow you to view the ink levels. With most printers, when ink is low it will automatically open a dialogue box showing the ink levels for each cartridge. If you're printer is not equipped with this feature, then the only way to know if any need changed is when printing a document, and any color is not present.
I apologize for such a long response, as I wanted you to know how to access these files. If you are printing, and all colors appear to be present, without fading, or "blotchy" spots, then your cartridges are still good. You should be able to do a print test (calibration or alignment test) to determine this as well.
Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Black ink volume unknown color ink is runing low

Hello there,

The very first thing you should do is try to reboot all affected devices. If you restart your PC and the printer problems persist, you can begin the printer troubleshooting process.

It’s often faster and easier to simply uninstall the printer and install it again. If you have a USB printer and a modern Operating System like Vista or Windows 7, usually all you will need to do is plug in the USB cable and the printer will automatically install. If the printer is older, you may require the installation disk to reinstall. Normally, however, the following troubleshooting tips will work without the need to reinstall.

If you have any question, or the problem still there. Kindly let me know again here.

I have a 1320 printer that just prints blank pages

If ink is ok , then you may need to reinstall printer drivers.

Unplug printer USB.
Go to control panel>>Installed printers and delete existing printer installation.
Reinstall printer driver software using printer CD.

Ink

Normally when you install the print software you install HP Director or solution centre software that has a estimated ink staus monitor..from user manual

Check the estimated ink levels You can easily check the ink supply level to determine how soon you might need to replace a print cartridge. The ink supply level shows an estimate of the amount of ink remaining in the print cartridges. Tip You can also print a self-test report to see if your print cartridges might need to be replaced. For more information, see Print a self-test report. To check the ink levels from the HP Director (Windows) 1. In the HP Director (or HP Solution Center), click Settings, point to Print Settings, and then click Printer Toolbox. Note You can also open the Printer Toolbox from the Print Properties dialog box. In the Print Properties dialog box, click the Services tab, and then click Service this device. 2. Click the Estimated Ink Level tab. The estimated ink levels for the print cartridges appear. To check the ink levels from the HP Image Zone software (Mac) 1. In the HP Director (OS 9) or HP Image Zone (OS X), choose Settings, and then choose Maintain Printer. 2. If the Select Printer dialog box appears, select your HP All-in-One, and then click Utilities. 3. From the pop-up menu, choose Ink Level. The estimated ink levels for the print cartridges appear.

Print a self-test report If you are experiencing problems with printing, print a self-test report before you replace the print cartridges. This report provides useful information on several aspects of your device, including your print cartridges.
Load letter, A4, or legal unused plain white paper into the paper tray.

Press and hold the Cancel / Resume button and then press the Start Copy Color button
The HP All-in-One prints a self-test report, which might indicate the source of the printing problem.

Brother MFC-420N : Color Problems

You need to start the ink cartridge changing procedure over. Try unplugging the machine for a few minutes.(from the wall and the computer) Then try the ink change over...If that doesn't work don't waste time. Download and install the latest drivers for your printer. Uninstall then reinstall with newer drivers. Let me know what happens. Good Luck, Tim
