Why does my dryer start but quit a second later

If it quits immediately after you let go of start button, then it isusually a bad timer or control board. The motor gets all its power during start from the start button or start relay, but once it is up to speed the motors centrifugal switch will flip, getting power from the run circuit. If there is no power supplied to run circuit (like when timer is off, or door is open) then the motor shuts off.

Amana dryer ned4600yq the dryer starts when the start button is pressed but doesn't stay on once the start button is released.

From what you describe, it could be several different problems. Rarely is it the push to start switch. The most likely scenario is that the centrifugal switch on the motor is not working correctly. The other scenario would be the timer. There should be a schematic located somewhere inside the control console. Look for the wires that go to the motor's centrifugal switch and the start button. Jumper the centrifugal switch on the motor so that the dryer thinks the motor is turning all the time. Then, test it by powering it on and pushing the start button. If the motor keeps running, then it's the centrifugal switch, if it shuts off, then it's most likely the timer.

Good luck!

My dryer works fine but when the dryer is hot after a load and I push the start button, it will only buzz and will not start. If I wait an hour and try to start it again , then it will start. Is it the...

motor is going bad, when was the last time you cleaned the dryer?alot of people don't know that the dryer has to be taken apart and cleaned, with my customers if they have a gas dryer i clean it out once a year because there's an open flame in there, with electric once every two years,i take apart the dryer, clean out the duct that the lint filter slides into, vac out the cabinet,i use a shop vac that blows on one end and vacs on the other end,i blow off the motor and the heater tube, you'd be surprised how much lint is in the motor,if the vent line is long i use a leaf blower and blow out the vent line or if they have hard pipe i have brushes that connect to your drill and clean out the line with that,on some it looks like a blanket is on the motor, that's how thick the lint gets and you'll see lint stuck on the rear of the drum, that's from the oil coming out of the motor from running to hot from the lint and spraying on the drum and then lint sticks to that.motors are easy to change out, next time send the model number and the make and i can look it up for you,if you clean the dryer you don't have to worry about a fire, your dryer will run like it should without damaging any parts and you'll save on energy because your clothes will dry on time instead of three hours to dry them, also if you use the auto settings the more or less on the timer the machine will shut off when the clothes are dry so you don't have to add more time if the clothes are still damp, the heat shuts off and then the timer advances, when the heat comes on the timer stops,it does this until the clothes are dry so you only have to set it once.let me know how you make out,if you need a hand getting the dryer apart let me know, always unplug the dryer before you work on it

Dryer will not shut off. could it be the timer?

Yes the time has a small motor on it and that is most always that. Carful the small motor can cost as much as a new timer.

Dryer will start run 5 minnutes shut down

After the dryer has been started to run, the motor will stop only when at least one of the motor feeder circuit wires is disconnected. The main feed line is routed through the timer while the neutral feed line is routed through the door switch. Hence, the problem is either the timer or the door switch. But the dryer shuts down 5 minutes after it is started and this signifies a dead spot in the timer that discontinues the main feed line shutting the motor down and also the timer motor. If the timer stops at the same point, then the timer is faulty and needs to be replaced.

Replacing the timer is an easy task that an average handy housewife can do. Just make sure the power to the dryer is disconnected prior to servicing to avoid the risk of electric shock.

Pull the timer knob off the console then remove the screws attaching the console rear panel to the console and move the panel away.

Disconnect the wires from the timer terminals one at a time then connect it to the new timer to avoid swapping out the wires.

Remove the screws securing the timer to the bracket then remove the timer and secure the new timer in place. Put the console rear panel back into position and secure it with the screws.

Ge Commercial Coin-Op Dryer.

When you replaced the motor, did you replace the relay? It sounds like you have done everything reasonable. I would try bypassing the coin operation part and see if that changes anything. Go back to the motor relay. It may be incorrect application. the part guys only know what the computer tells them. it may need a different one. I am assuming that when the unit shuts off you checked for power from the timer to the next place, according to the diagram.

Roper dryer won't shut off

The timer motor isn't moving the timer. You'll need to replace the timer. Turning the timer **** to off should stop the machine.
Exception: If the shutting the door automatically starts the motor, then the start switch/relay is probably shorted.

Probablyl the timer motor. Synchonosous motors that run these timers have a internal part that insure they always start the same direction.
