Check clutch linkage to see of anything is binding up. If there is a bad bushing it could throw the alignment out.

SOURCE: john deere 2010 tractor. pto grinds and wont engage

The PTO usually has a clutch that has to be engaged so that you can select the PTO rotation setting. I had a problem like that on my tractor and all it needed was a little adjustment on the PTO clutch lever, so it could disengage the PTO gearbox properly.

percussive maintenance my friend. Try banging on the solenoid and starter with a hammer while in the start position. Also, if you have a voltmeter, you can see where voltage is getting to and that will help you as well.

SOURCE: John Deere 2010 utility tractor, lights come on

1) Battery condition and clean cable connections
2) Check the voltage & connections at the solenoid
*Is full battery voltage found at the solenoid?
3) Does the small wire that activates the solenoid from the ignition switch/safety switches have voltage when the key is in the start position

a) voltage yes, but it does not start; suspect solenoid
b) voltage no, inspect and check all safety switches for voltage to and from each switch
c) safety switches do NOT have voltage to them: inspect connections on ignition switch and check for voltage coming into the switch from the battery.

My John Deere ride on mower appears to be stuck on gear when I move the gear stick to neutral still the same stuck in gear. Can you help please?

Dear Susan,
Someone will be needing to get the machine up in the air, or at least high enough to get under it and look, and see what is going on.
You may have some linkage bent, or a joint has come apart, or a belt has broken, or whatever.
It is pretty unlikely the problem is bad, but surely needs to be diagnosed.
The person will probably begin by removing the shifter linkage and seeing if the transmission will work properly whilst disconnected to the shifter.
It should.
God bless your efforts.

Keeps going into neutral popping in an out of gear

Hi Frank:
I'd start by checking the linkage for excessive wear. There will probably be a cam or spring loaded device that keeps the shifter linkage in the correct position. Sometimes an accumulation of contaminated grease/dirt can prevent the proper function.

Transmission shifter hung up in netural

Expose the shifter mechanism from the base, look to see it the is an obstruction that is causing the shifter not to shift... Pay attention to the shifter mechanism ends and see if it's worn out, they sell both OEM and aftermarket shifter arms and linkages..
