Freezer works, refrig isn't cooling

The past couple days the refrig isn't blowing any cold air, but the freezer works great...been making ice for football tailgates. I vaccuumed the dog and cat hair underneath the refrig and even removed the panels in the back to vaccuum as much as I could (which wasn't much). any help would be appreciated.

    my bad...click wrong button.

to answer your question, yes the fan works when door is open and closed and yes I've adjusted the thermostat the past couple of days. I looked down the refrig blower and saw a bunch of ice crystals....does that mean it's frozen over? I've emptied the fridge and freeze and let's see if it thaws out.

It worked. Took about 4-5 hours to defrost, but kicked on right away when plugged in. The air filter beneath the refrig/freezer had not been vaccuumed in a long while (and was an 2 inches deep with cat and dog hair when I cleaned it)....I'm thinking, and I'm no expert, that the lack of air flow contributed to the ice crystals building up in the forced air vent....eventually cutting off all cool air to the refrig. Thanks for your help.

Hi, Can you hear the fan motor running in the freezer? If not it probably needs replaced. Some units shut the fan off by a door switch. If its not running when the door is closed, it could be the door switch. If the fan is ok, make sure the thermostat is set right. Sometimes something in the frige gets bumped against it and it will get moved. NOTE: Allow aprox 12-24 hours for changes in thermostat settings to take full effect. If this all checks out ok I would suspect the defrost timer. Remove everything and place in coolers or another refrigerator. Unplug the refrigerator. With doors open let it sit for aprox 6 hrs. A fan blowing into the freezer section will help. Plug back in and see if it works good again. If it works good for a couple of days and problem returns, Replace the defrost timer. Hope this helps. kstfas

Yes, I think the defrost timer is the problem. Unplug the refrigerator. It will take a while to defrost it because they are well insulated. If it works a few days after defrosting it. Replace the timer. Between now and then you might want to be looking for a place to get a timer. Any type of generic timer will work but sometimes they get complicated trying to figure out the color codes. The original timer, or at least one with a good explanation as to the wire colors and connection to your refrigerator will be easier to use. Good luck and thanks for the rating. Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Maybe you have incidentally disconnect the lines wire thats connect to blower, or you have blown fuse line in to blower.. check all the wires unconnected. or when the fuse blown! replace a new one fuse with same rating!

My refrigator isn't making ice, and hasn't in about 6 months?

It could be a couple of resons, I have the same problem. With my refrigator its the water tube that fills the tray freeze up. So I have to shut off the unit, leave the freezer door open for about 30 minutes or so. Then restart the unit.

Freezer appears to be working, but not the refrigerator section - at most that will only get to 50 degrees. Manually switching to propane makes no difference.

Sounds like your cooling fan is out. If the freezer is fine and the fridge isn't, then the cooling fan isn't blowing the cold air the the fridge. Or you could have ice obstructing the airflow.

Icemaker

You might have a frozen line. Also and this seems more important to you its prob to cold, Trust me to cold of a refrig will cause hollow ice cubes first leading to a frozen line. Clean your coils, if you have another refrig empty out into that, unplug it leave doors open a couple days. If you can get to water line use a hair dryer from a distance defrost line, turn down freezer half knotch 1 full one at maximum. should fix issues, especially if filter already changed. If this all check prob a clogged line, not just frozen.

Ok the freezer section works the refrig section think of the refrigerator as a large cooler with an inlet and outlet hole cold air is blown into the refrig from the freezer via the fan motor in the freezer the really cold air comes in the top of the refrig and drops to the bottom of the refrig then it is sucked back into the freezer thru a vent hole in the bottom of the refrigerator ..GOT IT?? Now when a unit has a defrost problem there is an ice or frost build up in the freezer on the coil (bad heater, bad bi metal, bad timer can cause this) the ice builds and builds to the point where it blocks the air flow across the coil hence the air can not get to the refrigerator section making it warmer but the freezer section will work ok .. I hope this makes sense...Hint : A sign of this is a lg frost buildup on the back wall of the freezer.
