Thanks a lot COUGHY_MAN. You've hit the nail on the head. The flywheel key was sheared.

The main reason for the kickback is the flywheel key is sheared, and must be replaced

I have a Snapper self-propelled lawnmower and The starter cord will not pull out to get it started. What do I do next?

Hi Patricia,
There is probably a safety lever that has to be pulled back toward the handle in order to release the flywheel. (This lever is on the top side of handle.) Once you have it firmly against the handle it should start. To stop the mower, simply release the lever. There may also be a 2nd lever to engage the self-propelled (located under the handle). It may be difficult to start with this one pulled.

Try to start it using jumper cables to boost it from another battery. If it starts, your battery needs replacing.

I have a new 650 sears craftsman self propelled 22" lawnmower that will not start. I have gone through the prime bulb instructions, still no luck.\r\nAny ideas? Walter in Alberta Canada.

could be the priming bulb gasket between the air-filter assy. and the carb.
I have the same lawnmower and if I prime with gas from a can it will start but stop after a few seconds. When I push the bulb I can hear air leaking in this area. You can replace the gasket by removing the back half of the air-filter assembly. I am looking to buy a gasket today I let you know how it works out! Thanks Ron

I have a troybilt self propelled model series 830. Yesterday we hit a stump and the blade bent and shut the lawnmower off. I recranked it and tried to recut when i noticed the blade was bent so i took it...

the blade is bent, replace it or you will ruin the engine,a new blade is much cheaper than a re-built engine and bearings, you bent it soooooo bad you can no longer even balance it, and if you continue it will destroy the engine if you have not done so already, this is the vibration you feel NOW
