SOURCE: CPU Upgrade for Compaq (283983-001) Motherboard

Some information I have found during my struggles to upgrade the CPU on this motherboard.

Compaq Evo D510 CMT system board 283983-001 manual; http://www.manualshark.org/manualshark/files/28/pdf_27716.pdf

The manufacturer specifications on the CPU only include those with 512K cache.

I personally tried a P4 (SL7E2) 2.8Ghz 533FSB 1MB cache and it will not work/POST.

SOURCE: What CPU supports Abit Fatality F-190HD motherboard?

The following CPUs were tested with it.
http://www.abit.com.tw/test-report/fatal1ty-f-i90hd.htm?1

Since your CPU was released after the board was released it might or might not work.
The CPU FSB is 800 and the board supports it so it could accept it.
Here is the motherboard specifications

Hi, you can see some info here:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01386897&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en#N280

As far that i can see you can not use the Quad core cpu
in this mainboard.
Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:
  • Core 2 Duo E7xxx (Wolfdale-M)
  • Core 2 Duo E4x00 (Conroe)
  • Pentium E2xxx series (Conroe)
  • Celeron Dual Core E1xx0 series (Conroe)
  • Celeron 4xx series (Conroe)

But you can use the graphic card as long it is PCI-E.

Trying to upgrade a Compaq SR1020NX computer. The HP website still has old info, likely based on the original bios. The motherboard is an Asus A8M2N-LA. What CPU upgrades will run on that board? Is there...

The ASUS A8M2N-LA is the motherboard used by HP for the new D4500e AMD AM2 PC.

Here are the details:
Motherboard manufacturer's name: ASUS A8M2N-LA
HP/Compaq name: Nodus-GL8E

What do you need to look for in the motherboard specifications?

I suggest you start by going to HP.com/Support,

http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html

In the box to the right of -> product search: <- type your model name and model number.
Example: Pavilion 7955

This will take you to the main page for your computer. See if -> Product Specifications <- is listed.
Click on that. Now see if -> Motherboard Specifications <- is listed. Click on that.

Look to see what processor socket you have, what Northbridge chipset you have, and what the Maximum Total Amount of ram memory is for the motherboard.

1.Processor: Intel Quad Core Q9650
Your motherboard has to have the LGA 775 processor socket. Also know as Socket T.
A.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_T
This processor socket has the pins in it, and the processor has the socket holes. The older Socket 478, had the socket holes, while the processor had the pins.

You need a Northbridge chip that will support the Q9650.
IF, your motherboard has an LGA 775 processor socket, I'm willing to bet your Northbridge chip is an Intel one.
This is a list of Intel chipsets. I have saved the link, to come up on Intel chipsets, that are for the Intel Core2. Match your HP motherboard's, Northbridge chipset, up with the one's listed on this chart. Look down the left column under the heading -> Chipset. After you find your chipset name, look across to the right. See if this chipset supports -> Core 2 Quad.

Example: The 945GC chipset supports Pentium 4, Pentium D, Celeron, Core 2 Duo, and the Intel Atom processor. Does not support Core 2 Quad.
The P965 supports (Uses) Core 2 Duo, and Core 2 Quad.

You may find that a BIOS Upgrade is needed also.

Another way to find out your motherboard information, is to download (Free) CPU-Z from CPUID.com,
Info on Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CPU-Z
Homepage:
http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

After you have downloaded this tiny, little program, and it is open, click on the Mainboard tab.
This shows a brief video on using CPU-Z,

Motherboard ID Motherboard Name Compaq Evo

as long as it is a socket 478 processor which narrows it down to P4 or celeron ( P4 being better and faster ) it should be fine.
Obviously it will state what processors it can handle in the computer manual so if you find the manual it should state in there.
I dont think it will handle more then a 3ghz P4

Will This Cpu fit my computer?

You can put the cpu in, its the same socket and the same pin as that one you have now. But you will probably not be able to use the 800Ghz fully since it is the motherboard who sets the buz speed and the cpu you using now haz the speed of 533Ghz.
About the RAM, you can have maximum 2GB of memory on that motherboard, thats all it supports. The momory type you can use is DDR PC2100/PC1600

All you need to know about your PC you will find here
