Have exact same problem when on timer: radio comes on as expected, then mutes (with click) about 3-4 minutes later, and stays silent for 1-2 minutes. During muting it is not possible to restore sound.

Today have tried a factory reset, to see if that helps out. To do this:
- unplug the unit from the power socket
- hold down the power on button and reconnect to power socket
You'll need to set clock and all radio stations again - so you may want to note these down before starting the procedure...

SOURCE: Sony HCD LX20i audio shelf sysyem won't turn on. Standby light flashing. Disc stuck in it.

Check the speaker wires for shorts, if okay! suspect the audio output ic's, the protection circuit won't come out of standby because there is a short.

Sony midi Hifi switching itself off

These digital amps are very prone to blow if the speaker wires are shorted so Sony appear to have put in a protection system that mutes the amp when this happens. You have to unplug the amp for a minute till the light goes off, make sure no speaker wires are touching each other and then it should work ok. I found the same problem with one I bought 2nd hand.

The volume knob is flashing red on my AX-SD1 amp..no sound.

Unplug the receiver, let it sit for a minute or two then plug it back in. It's either in "mute" or in Protection. Generally, Yamaha's will say "Ck. Spkrs" If it still has a problem, post a comment and I will look up some sources and help some more.

Very noisy left channel on my Sony amp - where can I get it repaired near Scarborough?

Generally the audio output IC causes this and it will have to be replaced.

Good luck on finding a good shop.
