My computer wouldn't power up, I took it to best buy and the diagnostics showed the motherboard went out. Should everything else be fine, would I be able to replace the motherboard? I want to put an AX1800...

'Diagnostics did', did it?

If going by your statement, "My computer wouldn't power up", means you press the Power On button, and nothing happens, then I do Not believe the 'diagnostics'.

If the above holds true, it sounds like a repair shop is trying to charge you for something you don't need.

Going by,

1) That you press the Power On button, and the Power Supply doesn't come on,

2) Or that you press the Power On button, and the Power Supply comes on, and the computer still doesn't work,

my diagnostics would be that you have a bad Power Supply.

A lot cheaper repair than replacing a Motherboard by a repair shop.

Suggest YOU, yourself diagnose the Power Supply first, to see if it even come on.

The method is to bypass the Power On switch.

You will be using a jumper wire to make a connection from the Green wire, to ANY Black wire, in the 20-pin ATX main power cable's connector.

The Green wire is the Soft Power On wire.
ANY Black wire is a Ground wire.

This is a photo of an ECS MCP73T-AD motherboard.
The kind that is used in the Acer Aspire AX1700 series computers,

Not an advertisement, nor sales pitch for you to buy one. Just reference for the motherboard used.

Scroll down to the large photo of the motherboard.
At the top right of the motherboard you will see a whitish connector.
Has two rows of socket holes.
10 across the top, 10 across the bottom.

This connector is what the 20-pin ATX main power cable plugs into.
Now I would like you to view a 20-pin ATX main power cable more closely,

When you open your computer case, (Computer unplugged from power), you will see your 20-pin ATX main power cable, plugged into the motherboard as shown in the photo to the far Right.

See the Green wire going down into a socket hole?
Also view the Black wires going down into the socket holes.

The Green wire is the Soft Power On wire.
(Also referred to as PS_ON)
ANY Black wire you see is a Ground wire.

Use one end of a jumper wire, to go down into the socket hole with a Green wire, and the other end of the jumper wire to go down into a socket hole, with ANY Black wire.

The jumper wire must go down into the socket hole pretty far.
The jumper wire goes down into the socket hole, right next to the wire that is already in the socket hole.

The jumper wire has to go down in the socket hole far enough, to touch a metal terminal that is on the end of the wire.
I realize that this may look complicated on 'paper', but I'm just being very detailed.

Most use a jumper wire made from a paper clip. The paper clip's diameter is thin enough to slide down into the socket hole, right next to the wire that is already in the socket hole. (And touch the metal terminal at the bottom of the wire)

The paper clip is straightened out, then bent into a U-shape.
Black plastic electrical tape is wound around the middle of the U-shape.
The taped part is what you hold onto.

Just make a brief contact with the jumper wire. No more than 2 seconds should suffice.

If the Power Supply comes on, you have a bad Power On switch.
If the Power Supply does not come on, you have a bad Power Supply.
No if's, and's, or but's about it.

Power unplugged to the computer, follow Anti-Static Precautions.

Anti-Static Precautions:
Your body carries Static electricity.
Static will fry out (Short Circuit) the hardware components inside a computer.
(Some hardware component examples are, Processor, Ram Memory, Harddrive, Graphics Card, {If used)

Computer unplugged from power, computer case open, working on a table.
TOUCH the metal frame of the open computer case to relieve your body of Static.
Should you leave your computer in the middle of working on it, upon your return be SURE to touch the metal frame again.

The voltage for the Soft Power On wire, (Green wire) is 5 Volts DC.
Two D cell flashlight batteries produce 3 Volts DC.
Just in case you have reservations.

Bad Power Supply?
Let me know, I'll tell you how to replace it, and can link videos.
Also tell you what Power Supply will work.

One of the leading causes of computer failure is a bad Power Supply.
Acer is also known for using LOW quality power supply's.

AX1800 motherboard work?
It's usually the same motherboard.
An ECS MCP73T-AD motherboard.

Reset the CMOS on the board (remove the battery for about 5 minutes) and restart. Press 'Delete' (or the required key to enter the Bios) to re-configure the board options.
