DVDRW - Can't recognize inserted media

Hello, My problem is that this driver can't "see" any media inserted (blank o no). It is a continuous flushing light at the front of the driver. Checked software (uninstall and reinstalled) seams OK. I got this PC only a week ago and was working well when I got it. Checked hardware installation and it is fine as far as I know. It seams to me that it is faulty hardware...please tell me what's your opinion. Thanks

Dell gx 260 there is no disc in the drive.

OK, first of all you said you put a blank DvD in the drive. Make sure your dell has a DvD writer. Look on the drawer of the drive and see does it say DvDrw or DvDROM. It has to say Rw for rewritable and not ROM for Read Only Media. Maybe you have a Combo Drive that is DvDrom and CDrw which means it will read both DvD's and Cd's but in can only Write CD's.

If in fact you do have a DvD writer make sure you're not trying to put a Blue Ray disc in the drive.

Lastly, remove the DvD from the drive. Click Start/My Computer. Notice what it brings up as to your DvD Drive. Does it Say DvDrw or just plain ole DvD. DvD means it will only read a DvD.

My dvd drive has started acting up. It no longer recognizes -dvd.

It has been my experience with Lite-On to be a great optical drive replacement. In the 10 years I've been in business, Lite-On has been my top choice for pcs. If you continue to have problems try a different BRAND of blank DVD media.

Good Luck

Th these PC Desktop problems? Averatec D1002UHCE-1 All-In-One Intel Desktop PC - Intel Core 2 Duo E4600 2.4GHz, 2GB, 320GB, DVDRW Averatec D1002UHCE-1... I have an all in Solve I have an all in one...

Try to work through the steps in this article. or this article.
If that doesn't help, here's a workaround that seems to help in some cases:
"Yea I have the blank screen too for my averatec 3200, but there's an easy work around
for some reason it default goes to the monitor port instead of the screen
all you do is press function screen( Fn F5) twice and you can see again. Whenever you see the blank screen pop up just change."
You might also google 'blank screen at logon' and check for other options, such as here.
If you get windows up, try this:
Run chkdsk c: /f or /r according to these instrucitons & these. (you can also run this from the recovery console or cd).
This could be the result of a driver conflict or issue. Run windows update and check for graphics updates, or follow these instructions to update your graphics/video drivers.
There's also the possibility that the problem is malware related, in which case try to follow these instructions.

DVD Burner does not recognize blank dvds

Usually 2 things cause this issue.

Incompatable Media or a Bad Drive.
Make sure the type of disk you have is compatable with your burner. Often off brand or no brand media just won't work. HP burners are picky.

Sony VGC RB53 wont recognize blank writeable cd/dvd's

Insert a blank CD, try to burn something on to the disk, if that is successfully done than the CD drive is fine, unless you have a problem. Sometimes blank discs don't show up with direct click.

Dvd rw drive not reading discs (DVD and CD)

That sound to me like a defective dvdrw because it can't read the dvd an try to re read and re read and lock the computer until you take it out.

+ Small screwdriver
-- Small screwdriver

Buy a new or used dvdrw for laptop, first take out the laptop battery. Locate the two screws at bottom of your laptop, take them out, whit a paper clip open the dvdrw from a small hole in front of it, pull the defective dvdrw out, if the front plastic face plate is diferent from yours you can change them using a small - screwdriver (be carefull). If you dvdrw have a smalls canals at sides in your defective dvdrw take them out and put them in the new one two, Install the new dvdrw by slowly pushing in to the dvdrw hole until it take its place, put the two screw drivers back + the battery and you shuold be on your way. Cd burner

You may want to double-check the "error" message. Normally, when you insert a blank CD-R or CD-R/W you'll see a pop-up message that says something like, "you've inserted a blank CD. What program do you want to use to put something on it?" And then it will give a list of programs like Windows Media Player, Nero Burning ROM, Roxio, MyDVD, etc. The last two choices are "Open a writeable folder" and "Do nothing." The next to last, the open folder, option is the CD recording option for Windows. Once you've put copies of that data into the new window click on the "burn these files to disc" link on the left side or located under the File menu at the top of the window.

Now, if it truly is telling you that you have to insert a blank CD, then you may have one of two problems. Either the CD you're putting in is NOT actually blank or the drive is having problems recognizing the media. To test the first scenario, try the disc on another computer. If it's truly blank, then try uninstalling the CD burner from your Device Manager located in the Windows control panel. Double-click on the System icon > Hardware tab > Device Manager > click on the (+) symbol next to DVD/CD-ROM drives and then highlight your Sony CD burner > right-click and in the menu choose Uninstall. Reboot your system and let Windows redetect the drive and reinstall the drivers (You may want to have any install discs handy, just in case Windows asks for them, but not likely).

I hope that helps!
