Subzero fridge door left open. Has a new compressor just recently. Is there a reset button on the compressor to get it going again

The compressor has probably overheated. Leave the fridge unplugged for a few hours until it cools down. If you keep trying to use it, the compressor will fail again. They have a self resetting thermal cutout but these will fail if the compressor keeps overheating.

Tip

My refrigerator is not cooling, how can I fix it?

It could be one of several problems -

1) Failed compressor relay
2) Failed compressor
3) Failed component in the defrost system
4) Bad door gaskets
5) Failed door light switch

Questions to answer -

1) Is the compressor (large black domed item with three tubes (one stubbed) at the bottom back of the frig.) warm or hot? If cool, then you could have a failed relay inside the compressor enclosure. Unplug the refrigerator from the wall, locate where the wires go into the compressor terminal box. Remove the clip holding the cover, and pull the relay off the compressor. Inspect for evidence of burning. Replace if necessary and reinstall all covers. You should always hear a clicking sound when the compressor tries to start. If it does not start, and you hear it click again a few seconds later, then it's likely you have a failed compressor.

2) Was the condenser fan running? The condenser fan pushes rejected heat away from the condenser coil. If it's not running, it's hard on the compressor, and the refrigerator does not cool.

3) Was there thick ice buildup inside the louvers of the back wall of the freezer? Heavy ice buildup here is an indication of a failed defrost control or heater and requires further diagnosis to determine the problem. A knowledge of use of a volt-ohm meter is required, along with a willingness and ability to do some mechanical and electrical dis-assembly and test.

4) Was the fan running inside the freezer? Freezer fan should run when the compressor is running, but not during the defrost cycle (or it would slightly heat up the refrigerator.).

5) Look up my "Tips and Tricks" article on testing your door gaskets.

6) Open the door slightly and look inside as best you can. Is the light on or off? Continue to open the door until you see the light go on to confirm the light switch is working.

Following each of the above steps may not help you fix your unit, but will give you an indication of things to look for and describe when you post a request for help when trying top fix you refrigerator.

Ge gss22sgmd not freezing. Fans running at compressor and in top of freezer. compressor is cold and not seem to be running

Look for failed start components on the compressor or a failed overload protector on the compressor. Also check for loose or burned wiring on the compressor terminals. Make sure to disconnect power before removing the compressor terminal cover.

Wont cool compressor runs

If there is a small amount of cooling, you have a failure in the defrost system. If there is no cooling whatsoever and the compressor is running, check for a failed condenser fan motor or blocked or dirty condenser coil. If those items are all okay, you have a failed compressor.

Hotpoint quadrio fridgefreezer 2 years old ,not cooling and not freezing, motor was running but has now also stopped, someone surgested moduel was broke any surgestions

These types of refrigerators usually have cooling issues related to defective defrost heaters and failed evaporator fans. I don't believe the compressor has failed. The compressor has a run capacitor and a separate klixon, contact, and fuse attached to the compressor shell that has a tendency of failing. I would check that. It usually makes a clicking sound, but the compressor will not start.

The compressor

No. Maybe.
If the compressor fails it can prevent the serpentine belt from turning.
The compressor can fail internally but still allow the ac clutch to turn, or the clutch can fail which will prevent the belt from turning.

Refrigerator has power but not cooling

A couple of possibilities: Coolant level has declined too far; compressor has failed, and finally, the defrost timer has failed. During the defrost cycle, the compressor is intentionally shut down and if the defrost timer has failed during the defrost cycle, the compressor will not be re-enabled.
You didn't include the model number so the following may not apply: The defrost timer is often located behind the lower grill of the unit. Remove the grill (often held by plastic tabs) and look for a small black box with a hole or a short protruding shaft. These often have a screwdriver slot to allow manual rotation in the event of a timer motor failure. If you find this, insert a flat-bladed screwdriver and rotate the shaft ~ 1/4 turn and wait to see if the compressor then starts up. If not, turn the shaft a bit further and wait again.
If the compressor does not start, either the relay that supplies AC to the compressor has failed or the compressor itself.

No matter what humidity setting humidifier is on it no lomger collects any water model# maytag m7dh6582a*a

Most likely the compressor is not running. This unit has been in service for some time as most of the replacement parts have been discontinued. There are some common parts that are generic that can be found like the capacitor and PTC relay & overload but this would require someone troubleshooting the problem of the compressor not running and determining which part has failed. Then to get COMMON parts it would be a matter walking into an apliance parts supply with part in hand to find them. If the controller has failed.. it is not available. If the fan motor has failed it is not available. The usual failures are as stated above, capacitor, PTC relay & thermal overload. Some one will have to remove the cover of the compressor terminals measure input power, inspect the PTC relay, thermal overload, wiring, terminals on the compressor, then measure the compressor windings for resistance and grounds to the case of the compressor.

If one of the common parts that are generic has failed you can repair this unit. If the controller, compressor or fan has failed your looking at replacing the unit.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly
