SOURCE: 1989 Ingersoll-Rand 185 cfm air compressor will not build up air

ITS A POSSIBILITY AND YOU BETTER HOPE ITS NOT SPINNING BECAUSE THE SCREW COMPRESSOR IS LOCKED UP. CHECK THE OIL LEVEL IN THE SUMP AND SEE IF THE ROTOR WILL TURN WHEN NOT RUNNING. TYPICALLY THE DIESEL ENGINE WILL TURN HIGHER RPMS WHEN IT HAS NO DRAG ( NO COMPRESSOR HOOKED UP ). YOU CAN GET THE PARTS FROM INGERSOL RAND OR ANY RENTAL YARD - UNITED, PENSKE, SUNBELT, ETC. THEIR MECHANIC SHOPS ARE USUALLY FOR HIRE AND CAN EVEN INSTALL IT FOR A CHARGE. ALSO MAKE SURE NOTHING BUILT A NEST IN THERE. IF YOU REMOVE THE SCREW, MAKE SURE AND WATCH FOR SHIMS. THOSE SHAFTS NEED TO LINED UP PERFECT TO REDUCE VIBRATION. GOOD LUCK

SOURCE: 1989 Ingersoll Rand 185 diesel compressor shuts down under load

most have safety shut downs built in, on the compressor side you will have a high discharge temp shut down, usually set to shut down @ 230 degrees F. normal temp should be @ 180F if it is running hot first check oil level on the compressor, and that the radiator is clean. some machines will have a thermostat that will only allow oil flow to go to the radiator after it comes up to about 150 degrees F. you really need to have a manual on the machine to see what other safety's it may have on the compressor and engine side as well.

Where is the glow plug relay located in a John Deere 970? Do you have a picture of what it looks like?

no photos nessacary !! just follow the + battery cable down to starter relay , find the second largest size cable (first largest goes to starter) that will lead you right too the glow plug relay it not far from the starter relay , if your questioning weather it works or not , just turn key to run (not start) on cool day (relay bypasses if engine is hot) an watch your voltmeter carefully , it should dip up/down and you should hear the relay cycle , it's been my experience that most hard start problems are either one or all of your cylinder glow plugs are not working (test light tells all) or you have a stuck injector drawing down your high pressure , or your pump is worn out (wont prime)

Low oil pressure. Are you adding a lot of oil. Have you check the oil level. Switch could also be bad.

John deere l130

Likely a bad switch. Could be one of three switches that will kill the engine when pto is engaged. First is the reverse switch, next is the seat switch ( operator presence switch), and lastly ( and least likely) is the clutch switch.
