How do I open the lid of laptop to use for the first time?

It generally slides to the right, spring loaded, and you have to pull up on the lid after sliding it to the right. It opens easy so don't force it.

Sometimes there is no latch. You just lift the lid while holding down the base.

Battery slide wont open

Does it have a locking mechanism? The Latch/spring may be broken or jammed, push the latch over and hold use a tool, old credit card, to wedge at the crack where the battery meets the laptop, gently pry it open, while holding the latch open. OR remove the laptop's bottom cover. If you supply the Model of the Compag , I may can assist you further.

Battery release latch won't open

If you push the battery in and try to release? Try a little silicon spray, mind not to over spray. If you hold open the release switch and manually pry out the battery with your finger nails?

The latch on the laptop broke How do i open it?

you need to mimic what the latch did most latches are like arrows in this case get two thin items ( blunt butter knifes) and move the latches both left or right if its a middle type latch then try pushing in were the broken latch was .get what i mean if the old latch pushed in then its a middle latch if it slide then is double arrow latch ounce the laptop is open if you dont want to spend $$ fixing the lach just cut of the locking arrows to stop it locking again

good luck
email me if need further assistance

Battery release latch locked in open -hp pavilion dv4 1313dx

The same thing happened to my HP laptop. The sliding lock mechanism relies on three little hooks to hold the battery in place. What had happened to mine was that one of the hooks (the one nearest to the switch) had gotten stuck (this is quite difficult to explain, but just examine the three little hooks closely and you'll notice it the difference.) I freed it simply by pushing it with my thumb to unsnag it. The battery is now securely back in place, where it will stay!

Top of my new laptop won't open Help

If you have the Acer 5570 model, there are two latches on the lid.....one on either side and I believe they both have to be moved together to open the lid. Move the slides to the right and the lid should open. If they don't and if perhaps a latch has broken from the release, try taking a credit card and swiping left to right you might be able to unlatch the catch.

Keyboard on my Dell studio 15 is locked

Use your touchpad or mouse to save all open documents and close all programs. Shut down the computer. Be sure to click "Turn Off" instead of "Restart."

Unplug your Dell Inspiron 2600 and close the lid.
Carefully turn the laptop over. Remove the battery. The battery has a sliding latch and lock. Unlock the battery by sliding the lock to the unlock position. Slide the latch and remove the battery when the left edge pops up.

Wait one minute and replace the battery. Slide the lock back into the locked position.

Connect your adapter and restart your system.
