Question about Mitsubishi WD-65732 65" Projection HDTV

Open Question

My WD-65732 HDTV has lines going through the picture. This happens only when the cables are inserted in the HD inputs. When the cable is plugged into the regular cable ports (not HD) the picture does not have the lines. The cable guy said it looks like the HD inputs on my tv are the problem.

COMP 1 and 2 are for 480i/p sources. Hook it to the 1080i capable on the back. Also make sure the HD DVR is outputting 1080i not 720p. The Mits can not disply 720p and will show a scrambled screen if you try to.

Westinghouse lcd hd 32"

Hi, In my location, this problem is usually caused by RF interference. Based on your posting/description, you only get the "lines of colors" when "hooked up with coax or HD cables". Please try a known good DVD disc with not other (cable/HD) connections to the input side of your TV. Make sure the disconnected cables are really far from the TV. Play your DVD and powerup your HDTV. Check if problem persist. If no, then you have RF interference which can come from a variety of sources; CB Radios, old wireless phones, two-stroke engines, electronic ballasts which piggy rides on your input cable/HD coaxial cable. It is also possible that the grounding/shielding of your cable/HD is loose, corroded or partially defective. If yes, your best bet is to seek replacement since as you posted it is still under warranty. Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turn up or should you require further information. Good luck and kind regards.

Static in the picture

Light static in picture is usually caused by a bad cable connector.
- things to check/questions:
Does it happen with all sources DVD, VCR ?
Are you on Antenna, Cable, Cable box or Satellite?
Does it happen on all Channels?
Do you use the cable input or audio video inputs?
The problem is usually not serious and is usually external to the TV

LCDTV - Picture problem

Do the lines only appear on the Cable box input? It maybe be a problem with your cable. Try to isolate the problem.

Do you see the lines on all sources such as your DVD player as well? If you press the MENU button on the Sharp remote, do the lines go through the menu as well? If yes, it is most likely a TV problem.

A bunch of lines sounds like it is most likely a problem with the connection with the LVDS cable, if not that, then a defective main board.

There isn't really much you can do about it now.
Since the TV is less than a year old, I suggest calling Sharp to locate a local authorized service center.

HDTV Cable box conflict

This set does not support 480I in the DTV mode, only 480P and 1080I is supported. Try setting the analog setting in the cable box to 480p and that should take care of watching the set in DTV. Most cable boxes have a setting for format changes in the customer menu, depending on the type of box. If you are able to change the format, then the other inputs will not work since they need a 480I signal, as well as VCRs. Another setup could be to use the S-Video cable or Video input jacks to get a better picture in 480I instead of using the cable input. However, when changing from HD to Analog, you will have to change to the correct input on the set as well. Hope this helps.
