I have a Dell XPS which has a built in webcam, how do I activate it so I can use it?

The webcam should be installed already and good to go, any chat software should recognize it instantly, if you want to see yourself in it there will be an icon in the bottom right hand corner that looks like some sort of camera, else if you go to the start menu and type in 'camera' you'll come up with a link to the software to run

Have you installed the driver of your Webcam properly? If not install the drivers properly and check. If after this it is not working then it might be a problem with the device, replace the device with a new one.

When I turn on my built in webcam, it works for a


probably this might cause by a conflicting windows update. i would suggest try to do a system restore first, restore it to the time when the webcam was working fine. after system restore if it works then i want you to disable the windows update from control panel. if this fails then proceed to uninstalling and resintalling the webcam driver.

Can't use the built in cam for Yahoo Messenger.


Some webcams have this problem in combination with Yahoo.
I was able to fix this by using a program called SplitCam. I allows for webcam sharing, but it also is compatible with most webcams. You can install it and then use that as the video source in Yahoo.
I found a nice description about using SplitCam for this.
