Well i think obviously the network card is damaged and causing the pc to stop when checking the pci slot that the card is in. Return to the supplier as the card should light up orange or green when operating normally, and under warranty if Os has a 12 month warranty period. Assuming you haven't had a power surge, they should replace the card.

Sorry but you can't fix a faulty network card, my solution must be correct, so your problem is solved, just take it back to the retailer.

My Dell desktop using Windows XP can't connect to my Belkin 5720 router but my laptop still works?

This sounds like a hardware failure, but just in case go to your computer Control Panel-Network Connections(Network and Sharing Center for Vista and above), and check your Network adapter settings. If your Network card is not showing, you may have a driver issue, or a bad NIC (Network Interface Card). It shouldn't matter that your router says" wireless hardware not detected", because you are hardwired from the computer to the router. I would check to see if you may have turned off, or blocked Ethernet connections on your router, I would then change my Cat5 (Ethernet) cable, and finally open the desktop and change out the NIC (Network Interface Card).

Go into power settings and disable the option to allow windows to turn the device off in Hibernation mode. Even though the machine is not hibernating if the screen saver activates or windows doesn't detect traffic on the card for some reason windows will power down the device.

Sometimes wireless phones will interfere with the signals. If the router or PC is anywhere near a phone, it might have a problem. I have one wireless network card that gives me fits like that. I have yet to get a PC working with it. I have other wireless cards that work fine. I also switched to 5GHz phones, which helped my old laptop. Check to make sure there's not a conflict with the encryption used by either the dell or the router.

Wireless G network card

uninstall the driver and restart PC, the PC should autodetect the hardware, slap in the cd that came with it and reinstall drivers. If that fail open device manager to see if their is any conflicts. If not the card went bad and youl need to get a new one.
