Problem with 2000 Volkswagen Beetle I have a 2001 volkswagen beetle that will not shift into 5th gear manual it wont it goes back into 3rd gear
Check the rubber/vinyl boot that covers the shifter. It can sometimes hold the shifter back in a bind and not let it go into gear. Often the boot comes loose from the top of the shifter and drop down to the console. When this happens someone may wrap a rubberband, hair tie or zip strap around it to hold it up. If pulled up too tight it can hinder the range of motion. Also, check under the hood on top of the transmisson for the 2 shift linkage cables attached to the shift levers. Make sure that the bolts are tight. If either of the bolts came loose it would cause the problem you are describing. With the engine off, have an assistant move through the range of gears and watch for excessive play where the cables attatch to the shift levers. If the problem doesn't lie in the shifter or the linkages then it will be an iternal trans problem.
A/T or M/T
if A/T , that might be A/T limphome mode.
(it will not shift to me ,implies it, as in A/T)
am i right?

Look in the area around the vacuum pump, there is also a vacuum brake booster check valve, check to make sure the lines are plugged into it, Hope this helps.

From what i read, the flashing temp light means the coolant level is low. Check your coolant reservoir. See this webpage for more information:

SOURCE: 2000 volkswagen power window won't go up
the problem is the window clips that connect window to regulator, it is a very common problem and there is a factory recall for the clips that fail. return to your local realership and they will rebuild both doors regulators with upgraded clips
