Solution, take out the tray if you look on the bottom of the machine there is a metal plate. in the middle of the plate there is a bump turn the tray upside down and look at the bottom, there is a small hole with a plastic lever. it is probably broken. when the tray is slid into position the lever hits the bump and releases the lifting mechanism. replace that part or the tray. I can get you a new tray e-mail me at

We are using standard size envelopes and the default used to be drawer one. Now if we have envelopes in the manual feed it wants to pull from there no matter what we select.

In the paper-handling menu set the envelope feeder size to the size of your envelope and the envelope feeder type to *any type.
Then ensure you are printing envelopes from your application.

As long as you have the correct envelope feeder then it just locks into place on the front of the printer. Simply open the tray 1 feed door (the one with the model number 4050 on it) and your envelope feeder just "locks" in just above the open tray. If you look at the printer you will see a small square connector block. Now look at the envelope feeder and you will see where the 2 meet together. Then match up the 2 and "lock" it in place.
