I had the same problem with my 1GB SONY MicroVault Clip flash drive. Hardware and the drive shows up on Vista, but it refuses to open or format it.

1) IT MANAGED TO REFORMAT NICELY ON WINDOWS XP!!!! So try this, or
2) When the Micro Vault does not operate well, please download the format software from a "download" button and re-format the Micro Vault. http://www.sony.net/Products/Media/Microvault/products/usm-l/dl.html
