CMOS batteries are usually easy to replace. Unplug the machine, Open up the case and look for the battery shaped like a quarter. It has one "clip" holding it in place. Bring it to CVS or someplace that sell watch batteries and replace it with the same voltage. Replace the cover plug it in and turn it on.

CMOS Battery

Hi Peter, well the good news is the batter is very cheap and easily spotted (if you can find a highly waxed green caterpillar shaped piece - that will be your CMOS battery). Google image Dell Precision M50 battery and you'll find plenty. Looks like the connectors are fairly straight forward to work with
Remember to have the laptop off and away from the mains - and wear an anti static wrist if possible. Regards

Dimensions 9100 added RAM now won't boot remove batery and will boot or reboot not from power off

Possibly a bad power supply. If you remove all the memory and it still won't power up unless you remove and re-insert CMOS battery that is a symptom of a defective power supply

It took a lightening strike. is there a power reset on the unit?

Hi there,
There are two ways to do a reset on *********** board.

CMOS Jumper

1. Open your computer.
2. Look for a mother board jumper labeled as JBAT1, CLR CMOS, CLR TC or just a push button for a mid to high-end mobo. it should be placed near the BIOS or beside the CMOS battery.
3. It should look like this, as you can see there is a white triangle indicator and a number 3. The pins 1,2 are shorted, try to removed the pin and short pins 2,3.

4. Now put the jumper back to pins 1 and 2, it's all done. now you can go to bios and load defaults before you can change values.

CMOS Battery

1. Look for a 3v battery on the mother board.

2. Press the lock downward to remove the battery.
3. After removing the battery re install the battery. by doing this you have successfully cleared BIOS settings.

NOTE: 1. Check the fuse of your AVR if it is busted. replace the busted fuse with same rating.

2. Check your power supply. If it's dead try to fix it by replacing the fuse but it will require soldering tool and skills. 3. Your computer might still work but in my case the usb ports can only read flash drives after the lightning and the network interface card is busted.

Hopefully this information helps.
Thank you for using FixYa.

Cmos bios battery is dead? press F1 to continue screen appeared for about 4 months and now pc fails to boot. how much to replace cmos batt and give desktop a once over service? thanks.

The cmos battery is a simple button cell battery and can be replaced very easily
A once over will very heavily on the service you use but i'd imagine anything up to $30.

I have hcl notebook p21. Notebook showing simos battery low please give me suggetion what i will do

All AT computers require a small battery on the system board that provides power to the Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) chip, even while the computer is turned off. This chip contains information about the system configuration (e.g., hard disk type, floppy drive types, date and time, bios password and the order in which the computer will look for bootable disks). The CMOS battery allows the CMOS to preserve these settings.

if it becomes low then you can replace this with new one.its very cheap.
you can also replace it yourself.

Shut down my PC, unplugged it, moved it to new location. Plugged it back in and it would not power up green light on the ASUS P4P800SE would not stay lite. Replaced power supply, green light on the mother...

Remove cmos battery and then replace it after 3 mins or so,
Try rebooting
If no luck, remove ram modules one at a time and retest
unplug all but hdd and power connector to mobo, cpu and hard drive and retest.

failing that, could be a surge of electricity has damaged your mobo

Compaq M2000 boot

check your memory card(s) you may have a bad on or two, and if that doesn't work then sounds like the mother board has become defective and needs replacing, but the ram Memory would be the cheeper fix first.

Power problem

Hi Odek, You have to short the CMOS reset pins on the motherboard. You can find the location of these 2 or 3 pins on the motherboard manual. For Enisco's problem the monitor power cable is not properly earthed. You can either earthed it by connecting a wire from any conductive part of the monitor to a earth pin on the wall plug or something conductive near the monitor like a will sill. I would probable change the wall plug or the faulty power board. regards

Yes, if replacing the cmos battery does not solve it, then maybe the power supply also is faulty.
