Failure of the startup circuit in the switchmode power supply; usually due to several components including IC1 (prefixed with STR - a 5-pin device). If the unit constantly displays HELLO, then BYE, shutting down, with no user operation available, then it is likely to be the IC on the 12V rail in the SMPS which is the main suspect.
Unfortunately, this cannot be repaired at user component level; it has to go to an authorised Panasonic appliance service centre for professional attention. (It may either involve the technician replacing various components, including the IC, or simply replacing the entire PSU PCB as a module to save time). It is safer for a qualified technician to undertake this type of repair, rather than the consumer/owner (that way the owner can be completely assured the job is done properly and will last beyond a day).
Your best bet is to submit the unit to your nearest repair centre for a quote, and a second opinion (on the exact nature of the problem(s) and the time/expense involved - including testing the rest of the unit to be sure nothing else is amiss), then you can make a positive decision afterwards as to what action you wish to take in this matter. It could be expensive whichever way you go but it is not unfixable, and if it is confined to the PSU board, you might be lucky in terms of the overall costs. Insist on up-to-date progress reports as required if you do go ahead with getting this fixed. Up to you.
You should not pay a repair bill without an assured, written guarantee signed by the technician that did the job, and which contains the company's official letterhead at the top.
Try to get this one fixed economically and to an agreed repair cost. If the workshop has an excellent reputation for customer satisfaction, you shouldn't be without your combo unit for very long. These are great combo units generally.
