Check the volume setting and the MUTE setting.

Check Device Manager to see if the audio is enabled and working.

Yes I have a t61 myself but I have a master image for where I work. Although they have all the correct software, drivers, programs etc that the t61 requires to run properly, I find that there are still some problems with the sound as well. SOMETIMES, not always, the sound will not work with the speakers OR the headphones. This may not be the exact same problem as yours, but for some strange reason, I fix it just by putting the laptop on standby and then starting it up again. Yes, it is strange, but it works for me :)

Hi I am vortash sorry to say as great as XP is the driver section is not as comprehensive as Vista so I doubt if the drivers for your sound card have been installed .. it would have probbably chosen a generic driver and they dont always work ..
First thing to do is identify what type of sound card you have if you go to control panel then device manager click on sound and video controlers and see if the sound card is registered there if it is check with your specs in your manual if you have one or find your set online and see what the sound card should be . download the updated drivers for that card . uninstall the sound card listed from device manager and shut down restart and the computer should do the rest hope this is of help Regards Vortash

No sound on computer and comp can not play music

This issue will occur if the Computer speakers are not to the default Audio Device. Please right click on the Sound icon on the right corner of the Taskbar (System Trey) and select the "Playback Devices". After that, please right click on the "Speaker/Headphones" to set them as the default Audio Device. This should enable the Computer speaker and sound should work correctly.

If the above steps did not resolve the issue, you may need to re-install the Audio Driver in the Computer to resolve the issue. You can download the Audio Driver using the below link.

http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/7ka213ww.exe

Restart the Computer after re-installing the Audio Driver.

This should fix the issue with the sound.

Hope this helps..

Thanks for using Fixya.

I have a thinkpad T61, I have downloaded the audio driver from ibm lenovo site. Still had no sound running xp sp2

The same model ThinkPad can have different types of network, video and audio drivers and unless you know exactly which one is installed in your ThinkPad, you need to download all the drivers and install each driver until you find the right driver.

When you download the drivers, write down the device driver and it's file name so you have a record of which driver you are installing and which directory the unzipped files are located on your hard drive.

Go to the IBM/Lenovo WEB site - support/download page and download the latest Windows XP or Vista device drivers for your model computer, Use this link: -

Hi. I think the only drivers for your machine is only for XP and Vista, Im a tech support technicain at lenovo and I have check the model of your machine and the only drivers available for this model is for XP and VISTA, you might want to consider using a different Operating system like XP or VISTA. You could find all the softwares and drivers available for your machine on this website consumersupport.lenovo.com, you just need to type in their the serial no. of your laptop and the exact model and it will output every software and drivers available for your machine, just remember to choose the correct operating system for your machine. Hope this helps

Problem With XP Drivers

hi,
Actually downgrading from vistas to Xp is not supported these days in the new laptops.
1. If you dont have driver setup for XP. You can try to get the driver setup for other Lenovo models models with a Hit and Trial method.
2. Alternatively you try to find out the video card of the laptop..Nowadays laps are mostly with Nvidia. Nvidia gives driver for all Os. so try to download from the Nvidia Site. it also has a automatic video card detetection software. run it to get the exact drive.
3. For audio ..it might be a High definition audio ... so download the Universal audio architecture from the URL ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp33501-34000/sp33867.exe or try google for UAA of lenovo.
then try to download a sound driver like conexant high defintion audio driver.
4. while installing the sound driver it might show u that "media for the device not found" in that case open device manager and install the driver from device manager.

5. last option lenovo now offers a Downgrade to XP CD... for more details log onto ..
